Congrats on your upcoming surgery!

I have to agree. Amelia was there when I went through all of that, but I hear she left. She did return calls, although not as promptly as I would have liked. Since she has left, I have had a VERY hard time get a call back. So, I can relate.

If you don't get an answer to your question, I am pretty sure it has to be JUST broth. No solids. It will be the same for postop liquid diet. They do the preop liquid diet not only to shrink your liver, but also get you in the habit of eating the way you will after surgery. Of course, you will eventually re-introduce solids into your diet.

I think the fact that you have faced up to the situation and written about it is a good first step.  You are out of the denial phase.

Congratulations!!

You have not gained ALL of it back, only 50 lbs.

Next step is to forgive yourself, and begin to figure out what is causing the head hunger.  One of the things I began to do early on was ask myself whenever I had an urge to eat what it was that inspired me.  Most often it was one of those food commercials.  I realized that tv watching and reading were my triggers.  Another thing was the desire for a distraction when whatever happening in my life was unpleasant (bored at work, and procrastinating from working)

As for the mirror thing, I believe that is called body desmorphic disorder or something like that.  If you cannot afford to get professional help as the other poster recommended, you might consider getting a book or two on that issue.

The BEST thing you can do is go back to basics.  Protein shakes and small meals.  Pretend you are one week post-op.  When that weight begins to come back off, you will find your path again.

Another thing you might try is some toning exercises that begin to sculpt your body so you WILL see a new body instead of a reduced, lighter body that still has the same original shape.

Maybe that original shape was what discouraged you and made it hard to see the results.

I see many people's AFTER pics and they still look like fat people, just scaled down.  Exercise could GREATLY change that.

I wish you all the best in finding your way back onto the path!

I have Caban, with RNY on 6/5/2012.

I like the people I've dealt with, but geez, its so hard to get a callback or email response.

At the pre-op training, they went on and on about call us anytime with questions.  That doesn't mean they will call you back.

I had a question about broth-based soups in the pre-op liquid diet........whether it could contain solids or had to just be broth.  No response.  Ok...........so much for THAT option!

I am feeling like of lost in the weeds now.

These forums have been more helpful than the office has.  Sadly.

There is a support group. I have never been, but I heard that it is at Shands Medical Plaza.

My surgery was 6/23/11. Best decision of my life! My words of wisdom: Follow the dr's instructions EXACTLY! I had no complications or problems. I really feel like this is because I followed the dr's instructions as closely as I could. I have also reached my weight loss goal at 10 months postop.

Congratulations on making this decision! I hope all goes well for you!

My mother used Dr. Jawad 4 years ago and she did very well. She had absolutely no problems.

I went to the information seminar for Dr. Daryl Wier and scheduled the initial consult for May 31, 2012. I received a call from his office to cancel the appointment since he has accepted a new position in the Hospital and no longer feels he has the time he would need to devote to his bariatric patients. The Office offered a referal to other surgeons.

Fortunately, I had already attended another information seminar from Dr. Kim out of Celebration Health. Both doctors were recommended to me and I was starting the process with both while I made the tuff choice of which surgeon to go with. Therefore, the cancelation by Dr. Daryl Wier didnt slow things down, but rather it made my decision for me.

Hi,  I just moved to Port Orange Florida.   I'm looking for a primary care physician who is knowledgeable about gastric bypass surgery.  Can anyone recommend someone?

Thanks,  Sandi
