Hi all, Can anyone tell me what the difference is between distal and proximal? I am preparing for a lap RNY. Have my consultation with Dr. Dennis on Dec. 12th and have been through all of the preleminary testing. Can anyone explain if there are varying degrees of the gastric bypass? I do not plan on having the duodenal switch, but seems like I read somewhere about the different cc's??? Sorry for being so vague. Just when I think I have researched this procedure thoroughly, I learn about many things I do not know :0 Thanks in advnce, Kristy

Hi Kristy, The distal RNY as i understand it is when the new pouch is completely seperated from the larger unused or (distal) stomach. You can find lots of info on the internet about the differences.Just do a search for distal RNY and go from there.I having my surgery done on 12-16-03 and that is what i'm going to have done.Best of luck to you on your journey.
