After the mention on the board about the WHO-TV story....I was wondering if anyone saw the article in the paper today...some of the same stuff, but with more details. This is the link http://www.dmregister.com/news/stories/c4788998/22475728.html Just as a thought.....in most previous news stories on gastric bypass, weight loss surgery, or the like, alot of what we go through is glossed over. Therefore the general public gets the notion that it is the easy way to weight loss. I'd have to say some of our "own" can have delutions of how much easier it can be. However, that is not the case. And we are an already high risk portion of the population. There are risks with any surgery. The two people that are mentioned in the article, my heart goes out to their families. Dr. AC did my RNY in August. I'm glad he did and I'd do it again.

I read the article and I wish that when the newspapers print these stories they would give all the facts like her weight and if she had problems before the surgery. I think we who are considering the surgery or have had it realize that there are risks but we consider the risks vs. outcome. I think of the 2 siamese twins who were joined at the head not long ago and they wanted the operation and they died people seemed to understand that but they don't seem to understand an operation to lose weight.

I woke up this morning to hear once again how IMMC is cutting back on RNY surgeries due to a death. They never comment on how many people they lose due to basic surgeries or how many die due to infection from basic surgeries. It seems to me that either the news has nothing else to report, or they need to find something to blame. I successfully went through surgery Sept. 18 but I weighed the possibilities with what would happen if I didn't have surgery. There are risks with any surgery, and they should focus on that instead of focusing just on the RNY. I feel for those families and to have it heard on the news over and over has to be heart breaking. When one decides on RNY it is not the easy way out, but it is the only hope for some of us to have a quality life.
