Topic: 4 Months Surgiversary
I just passed my 4 months mark and updated my profile- it is a strange life post op- isn't it?
Things are going well- life is good -
My sink holes are smoothing out and I am shrinking all over- I now have unattractive rolls and droops but they too are smoothing out-I can't wait for that back fat/bra roll to be gone!

Topic: RE: WW?/Plateaued
I'd like to know if you have started WW and if its working for you?  I had wls 5 yrs ago, have gained 15 back and even on WW I can't get it off.  I'm exercising 4 days a week now too and thought I had lost 2 lbs this week only to get on the scale this am and haven't lost anything.  Very frustrating since I've passed on a lot of treats that I really really wanted to eat.

One of my biggest worries is that I gained a lot of weight when I was younger by doing the yo-yo diets.  So I'm concerned that I may fall into that trap again and put even more weight on.    What have you been doing since you posted this msg in April?

Topic: RE: Anyone a State of Iowa employee? Using their insurance?
Kari,

My DH and I had bypass 5 yrs ago using my state of Iowa insurance.  The insurance company was wonderful with the surgery.  I have had a problem with them paying for some of my meds since then though.  I don't absorb iron well and the doctors had prescribed liquid iron, etc which is fairly expensive and BCBS wouldn't pay for anything that was considered vitamins.

Hope this helps.

I'm not allergic to these foods but since surgery have become very lactose intolerant, something that is very common post-surgery.
Are you sure you are actually allergic to the foods? Have you been tested? The reason I ask  is that for several years I thought I was allergic to some foods (eggs & whey proteins) & when tested it turned out that I was just sensitive to them and was able eventually to eat them. Well, I'm still scared of whey protein in shakes.
If you are allergic to milk & soy, you will need help getting in enouigh protein after surgery. However, most of the bariatric programs employ a dietician & I'm sure he/she will be able to work something out for you. I see that you are from Waterloo. If you are looking at going to Dr Glas**** in CF, his dietician, Lois, is really very helpful. I'm sure you can call there & arrange to speak to her, even before having surgery, to get her input.

Well, good luck with everything.  The psych eval was a piece of cake.  The doc I had was very laid back and easy to talk to.  Part of my 3 years of dieting was the 1300 cal. diet they put me on.  I lost like 35 pounds on it.  I didn't know the BMI had to be for the last 3 years as well.  I thought you just had to prove a BMI of 40 or above at the time of the request for approval.  I'm still working my way down to a BMI of 40.  Can't wait to get there.

Did the floods get to you in Hiawatha?  Love Sam's Club.  We have to make a couple of trips a year.  We're getting one closer to home in October, though, so we might not make it up north as often as we used to .

Take Care,

Well, the way it looks, the only things I have to complete now, is the psych evaluation and get a letter from my PCP showing my weight loss attempts along with proof of having a BMI of 40 or more for the past 3 years.  This last one is where I might get stuck, I've been tetering in the 38 range for the past 7 years, so this is the first year I've been at 40, so I hope that doesn't  cause me to many problems, otherwise, my appointment went great, every one was super nice!
