Need help with insurance. Anyone with Aetna - UPS and BCBS thru UPS?
Hello! My name is Kelly and I've really enjoyed reading all of your posts the last few weeks. I went for a surgery information seminar at St. Vincent with Dr. Gupta in July. I liked her a lot and want her to do my surgery.
However, I can't get a straight answer out of anyone. Since I have 2 insurance companys they both want 6 months of phycian supervised dieting. I calleb both insurance companys to ask them about spucific things in my policy and guildlines that I'd printed out about WLS. One question was about the wording with Aetna, and the lady told me I'd have to ask my Dr. They wrote the policy but cant answer my question? (My Dr. didn't know the answer either!)
The problem is I dont exactly know what all it is that they both need, and if I can satisfy both with one 6 month dieting period. I asked the ladys at ST. Vincents and they told me to ask Dr. Gupta. I asked Dr. Gupta and she told me to call....I think it was Amy. (The one who you always get her voicemail because she works at home). So I called there and left a message. That was over 3 weeks ago.
So my question is did any of you go through this stupid stuff? (I'm just frustrated) What diet did you follow? Money is definately important in whatever diet I am to do....so things like medifast are out. Do they just have you do a low calorie diet? Thanks! Kelly
It seems so silly to me when I've been overweight my whole life, and none of the other supervised diets that I've done over the years haven't worked that I have to do it again just for them. Dont get me wrong, I'll do it and I'll do the best I can.... I need to loose some weight before surgery anyways, but it just feels like right now I'm getting no where fast.
Again, I'm excited to be here and hope to make some new wonderful friendships. Any advice would be much appreciated! I completely feel your frustration as I am going through a similar experience with BCBS (not through UPS though). I asked them several questions and always got vague answers. Basically my understanding of the supervised weight loss is whatever type of of diet your physician orders is acceptable (assuming it isn't some radical crazy type diet!). I know my doctor ordered an 1,800 carlorie per day diet and BCBS didn't tell me that wasn't okay when I directly asked them. As far as the 6 months for both insurance companies, I can't imagine that you can't use the same 6 months for each company--otherwise that seems insane!!
Good luck--keep us posted!
I have BC/BS with the State of Indiana. I was told that there needed to be documentation that I was counseled about diet AND exercise each month for the 6 months. I was told by a fellow OH'er that I should make each monthly appointment come hell or highwater, because otherwise they might make me start over. Hope this info helps.
