In my days of trying every diet possible I did drink the EAS Advantage shakes and really liked them. I like the chocolate and they are cheaper if you buy them at Sam's club by the case. My son drinks them on occasion now to boost his protein intake since he is an athlete and always needs more protein. I hope I can tolerate these after surgery.......they make vanilla and strawberry but chocolate is the best for me so far!!

I was already lactose intolerant before surgery, so I spent about 6 months prior to surgery trying out various different protein powders. The one that I used post-op was Unjury (www.unjury.com), which is only available by mail. I love that it dissolves immediately and that, as you stir it, the smell of whey goes away quickly. I put it into hot chicken or beef broth, or decaf coffee for a low calorie protein drink. I mix up the chocolate flavor in warm soy milk for breakfast and they have a chicken soup flavor that I mix up with ho****er for lunch. You can drink it cold in smoothies, but I like it better warm or hot (seems to get past my band better). You can buy samples of Unjury, so you can see if you like it before ordering a big tub.

Thank you all so much for your experiences and advice!! I'm going to keep an open mind, keep my list of backup options handy, and see how I feel over the next few weeks.

Sue, I wish you'd said something at the meeting...I wondered if any HL's were there! I'll miss the next one; it's my daughter's closing program at preschool that same night.

I like Hood Calorie Countdown chocolate milk.  It is about $3 per half gallon.  I drink at least 16 oz/day.  I get the majority of my protein through my milk.  I drink about 48oz a day (16 oz h\Calorie Countdown; 32 oz skim).  Because my Calorie Countdown is so expensive, i dilute it with skim.   I was lactose intolerant right after my RNY.  I experimented a little.  Instead of mixing the powdered milk with 1 or 2%, i used skim.  That helped a little.  Then I started drinking skim milk at the end of the first week.  Wasn't on the list, but I had to have the protein.  I found that the less fat in the milk, the better i could tolerate it.  Now milk doesn't bother rme at all. Good Luck this week.  Dr. E is the best!!!

Bringing this back up, as I'm on day two of the St V's protein supplement, and MISERABLE.  I'm going out this afternoon with my mom and see what other protein options I can try, because I've only had half of today's supplement and feel horrible. Yuck.  Thanks for all the options!
