I went to ST.E on a referal to see an gyno/oncolgist at the cancer center because i have complex atypical hyperplasia ,and need a hysterectomy.
Well its scheduled for Feb 19th,which is okay but he is going to remove the excess skin on my stomach at the same time.
Great right, yes but it scares me to think about it a skin removal and hysterectomy at the same time its like a 2 for 1 or buy one get one free.
But im wondering if any one has had this done at the same time and how things went.Is it safe.
He said it would take 4-5 hours and im just not sure.
What do you all think....
My surgery date for my gastric bypass is feb 18th ill be out 1 yr.
Ive been reading on the internet all the info i can
thanks all

Lisa I lurk over on the plastic surgery form here on OH and I think its fairly common for peeps to do more than one surgery when getting plastics.  Especially if their insurance will not help them, that way they are not paying for the anesthesiologist and other things twice out of pocket.  Have you checked out the plastics boards here on OH, I bet someone over there can better help you.

Lisa,

I think most of the people on the board who has had plastics had more than one procedure done at the same time. I had the panni, abdo, and thigh lift done at once...and keep in mind that my problems afterward was due to scar tissue, not the plastics. Dawn had a hernia & panni done at the same time. Gail had a hernia, panni, and abdo. I believe Marianne & Annette both had the panni, abdo, breast lift/augmentation done at the same time.

Even with WLS, often surgeons will remove gall bladders at the same time..so doing double-duty isn't really that unusual I don't think.

I would think that the biggest portion of your surgery is going to be the hystorectomy part so I wouldn't worry about that little bit of extra time that they'll be taking for the panni. Be sure to discuss your concerns with your surgeon though. He should be able to make you more at ease with the procedure.

Clarify with the surgeon what he means by excess skin removal.  I also had this done when I had a hysterectomy in 1988.  The doc just cut away a couple of inches.  It was noticable but was nowhere near a "plastic" procedure.  I didn't have any "additional" pain or recovery time, just the basic incision pain.

A tummy tuck procedure is more comprehensive than skin removal.  Muscles are tightened and sewn in place if needed then the tummy skin is pulled TIGHT and stitched together.  The skin is loosened from the tummy and nerves are severed so there is very little incision pain as most of your tummy is numb until the nerves heal or regenerate.

Best wishes on your 2-fer.  It sounds like a good deal even if it just gets rid of excess skin and will give you food for thought about following up with a tummy tuck in the future when you are at goal.
