Disappointed
OK, so yesterday was my Psych. I really had been worked up for nothing. It wasn't bad at all. She was very nice and told me that she didn't see any cause for concern. EXCEPT getting approved by my insurance because of my borderline BMI. This month I have worked very had on the liver-reduction diet. I am really proud of loosing 17lbs and people have really started to notice. I am feeling great with more energy. I had a 2nd appt with my Dr. , so I thought. I was weighed and then told that I was to come back for a class. I didn't know anything about a class. I thought I would meet with the dietician again and Dr. Mattar. I did have some things I wanted to talk about. I also wanted a little praise for my hard work. So, I came back to the class in the afternoon. The woman started off by saying we were there because we didn't make our goal weight. So, I am being punished for 3lbs?? She was telling us how to read labels. Are you kidding me? I have been reading labels for a month now, watching sugar and protein. Half of the people in the class weren't even following the diet at all! And I bet they will be approved on the first try. I am feeling very discouraged. I hate to sound like I am a big baby... but I was very diasappointed that no one patted me on the back and said good job. I didn't get to talk to anyone about my questions that I had. I am starting to feel like this isn't going to happen. I am mad at myself for allowing myself to get excited. Dr. Mattar was so reassuring that there wouldn't be any problems with my insurance. I wish I could have seen him yesterday. I really felt the wind was taken out of my sail and I expected the opposite to happen.

Sorry to hear that you are so disappointed and discouraged. I am not much help since I didn't have to follow a special diet or lose a set amount of weight before surgery (hopefully someone on here can help in that area). Maybe you should call your surgeon's office and make an appointment to talk with him. That way you can voice your concerns and have the opportunity for him to answer the questions you had.
I just wanted to say keep your chin up and keep up the hard work. 17 lbs is great!

Hey Michelle! First off, GREAT JOB on the weight loss, really, I know firsthand how hard the diet is and you are doing great! Second, ok...so how the program works is you come in for nutrition classes until you meet your goal weight. After you meet your goal weight then they will set you up for a preop appt with Dr. Mattar. At that appt he is going to review that you did meet your weight loss goal, make sure you are still wanting the RNY, answer any questions you have, and then go over what preop tests he is going to want you to have. After that, Nancy, his secretary will fax your paperwork to Clarian North and they will call you with a preop testing date. Laverne will then get your paperwork a day or 2 later and she will send it to the insurance company usually within a week. Now....don't worry about your insurance approval. The BMI that is submitted is your starting BMI that you walked in the door with, not your current BMI. Mine was 41.6 and I was approved within 24hrs. I asked Dr. Mattar if he forsaw a problem with my insurance and he said absolutely not and he was right. If you have any question, call or email Nancy, she always promptly answers my questions and since she is his secretary she can answer questions specifially to him and if she doesn't know the answer she will find out! I only saw Dr. Mattar himself as often as I did because my gallbladder decided to act up so that bought me 2 additional visits with him and they worked the dietician in to see me during those appts so I never attended any of the classes. If you have anymore questions, text me girl. You have the number. But don't worry! And I am sorry they didn't praise your weightloss. Might have just been who was on that day because they did make a big deal about mine each time I was in.
