Food question

I'm curious - can we have Lean Cuisines?  I mean if I choose wisely and make sure the ingredients are something I can have, like no pasta or red meat - maybe chicken and veggies?  I would probably get at least 3 meals out of 1.  I'm just looking to add some variety.  I am on solid food - 3 oz at a time now, and looking to find something different for lunches.

I ate enough refried beans my first 8 weeks out to clear out a store bigger than WalMart, so I really don't want to take beans to work for lunches.

Christie we are allowed to eat the lean cusines at your stage.  My directions for eating them were to add a side of veggies or choose the lower carb ones.  If you go to the lean cusine website and look there are about five that have under 20 grams of carbs and 15 grams of protein per meal these will be your  best choice.  I had the selections wrote out but can't seem to find it for you.

Jeannie - thanks for the info!  I went to their website and found the following ones that appear to be compliant with St. V's dietary guidelines:

Green label:

Roasted Garlic Chicken - 20 g protein, 9 g carbs, 180 cal.
Three Cheese Chicken - 21 g protein, 10 g carbs, 210 cal.

Red label:

Baked Chicken Florentine - 18 g protein, 14 g carbs, 200 cal.
Roasted Turkey and Vegetables - 15 g protein, 12 g carbs, 150 cal.

Each one is accompanied by veggies - broccoli, green beans, etc.  No potatoes or rice - not allowed at St. V's.

Each one would probably give me about 3 meals as I can only eat 2 oz protein per meal.

I think I'll go get some this weekend.  I'm needing ideas for meals.

Thanks for your help!

I love Lean Cuisines! The Smart Ones meals are pretty good, too. I love the three cheese canneloni, but at your stage you probably should stick with the ones you listed. I know it's pasta, but one is usually a couple of meals for me and that's usually all the carbs I have for the day, at least most of the time.  Honestly, there's a lot more cheese than pasta in those little things!

Just try a little bit of each one until you see what you can tolerate. Ain't it fun to finally get to EAT something?

Good luck!

Christie,

I was told that the Lean Gormet were fine as long as I avoided the ones with pasta or potatoes until I was AT LEAST a year post-op. But then, I was told to avoid bread and many of the other things that I see people posting that they have on a daily basis. The dinners that are heavy in cheese sauces aren't that good either. They usually do not use low-fat cheese for their sauces so the cheese....instead of being a protein source just adds fat. And..isn't that what we are trying to get rid of in our lives??

I had measured out the meat at the time and it was consistently 3 oz my measurement. There were times I could eat all the veggies too even though I was at the 3 oz stage. My nut reminded me that veggies are high in water content so they squish down alot. At that time, it was fairly easy to find LG's with just meat & veggies but now, at the stores closest to me, they keep the ones with the carbs in stock instead.

The LGs were the only ones I could find that did only have the meat & veggies. And..I could usually get them for ~$1 each so it was a terrific deal as compared to Smart Ones or the Lean Cuisine's. Who would had ever thought that Gormet was cheaper than Cuisine? LOL!
