Topic: RE: People gaining weight after RNY
Laura, it is possible to regain and something most of us will have to be diligent in fighting for the rest of our lives. RNY gives you a tool and a jumpstart to get to a normal weight, but yes - some folks don't dump on carbs and if they eat them - sugar, white flour, starches - empty calories - in quantity they will gain.  The pouch doesn't even need to be stretched for them to do so.  It's kind of like a little funnel.  So, crackers, milkshakes, ice cream, candy all will go down quite smoothly.  Dumping provides some behavior modification, but if you have an eating disorder you have to work on the head side of the game in order to succeed.  There have been times when I've eaten things even knowing I was going to dump.  There have been times when I have eaten too many calories just eating the "good food" that is all legal on my diet.  It's a battle for me, because I suffered/suffer from a randomly occuring binge eating disorder.  Even so, I am very grateful for how far I have come and I am continuing to work my program of diet and exercise and I won't give up until I reach my goal. Even then, I won't give up.  I'll work to maintain it.  My husband managed to gain 40 pounds back in this last year - his second post RNY.  He won't log food and plan - therefore has no idea what goes into his mouth.  That refusal to plan causes problems since he doesn't know how to adjust.  It will always be a battle for some of us.  But that doesn't mean everyone will fail.  You have to choose failure, just as you choose sucess.  Of course, there will also be those folks that have medical conditions that could cause their regain too - like thyroid, or having to take steroids, or other reasons I'm not aware of.  This is my own personal experience.  Hope it helps a little.

How is that possible? Do they overeat and stretch their pouch out? Maybe they don't dump and eat carbs/fats? I know of 2 people here in town that got real skinny and now have gained it all back and then some. No way would I ask them what happened, don't know them well enough. But it's really scary to me that it seems that easy to fail. Does anyone have any answers as to what would cause such a huge weight gain after losing so much and when your pouch is so tiny? Thank you.

Topic: Surgery Nov 23
I am having issues with Fibroids and cysts on my ovaries and have been since about 2 months after my RNY. My doctor has scheduled surgery for Nov 23. Is this something I need to let my bari surgeon know about and has anyone been through major surgery since their bari surgery? My surgery is going to be abdominal because the tumors are so large so I am concerned about recovery afterwards. I was so lucky to have lap RNY. I appreciate any responses that I get!

Thankful for you all and my RNY!

Topic: Need plastics info for Indianapolis area
Does anyone know if insurance will cover anything on plastics or any plastic surgeons that will file it?  I was thinking of going to my WLS surgeon's husband's practice, but they won't even bother filing insurance paperwork.  I'm a mess and need a lot of work, but the bad economy has wrecked my personal economy. However, I am very nearly at my max out of pocket for the year.  Thanks for any replies!

I've used Devrom.  It does neutralize the odor of the flatulence.  They are chewables.  I got them at the bariatric shop at St. Vincents in Carmel.  They are also available online.  I also use simethecone capsules for bloating and gas, but I use the Devrom if the smell is bad.  The Devrom is kinda pricey.

Topic: Any one tried Flatulence Deodorizer
Hello everyone,
I have been battling a decision  to try this, I have tried to stay away from sweet and some carbs, but still am having problems and embarrassment, I do chew sugarless gum a lot and I am not wanting to stop that.  So I was going to try the deodorizers, I don't like to go out or do anything with other people because I am afraid I will have flatulence and kill everyone.  So with that being said, has anyone tried these products and if so do they really work.  The Internet site said people that have had weight loss surgery, ibs, and other problems have used this and like it.  I think the site is called Flat.D

Topic: Chair Lift Rentals
I'm just wondering if anyone has rented a lift chair for after surgery? I'm having the the DS and have heard that recliners are quite helpful. If you have rented one before, any suggestions of companies would be great! Thank you in advance.

Topic: Having a weird pain?

I am having this weird pain like where you have a pain when get something stuck in your pouch or are full. It started last night and when I woke up this morning it was still there and it is starting to worry me. It is a constant pain but it comes and goes and feels kind of tight.  I am just wondering if it something to be worried about and heck maybe I am having a heart ache? I am over a year out from surgery and have had no complications!
