Topic: Blind Loop Syndrome
I'm just wondering if anyone else has been diagnosed with that, what they've done to treat or correct it, and how they are doing now?  I was diagnosed in January after suffering for years.  They diagnosed it after having an enteroclysis.  I was referred to Dr Ditslear, who is a bariatric surgeon that specializes in that syndrome.  I had surgery in August to correct it.  He ended up removing about a foot of bowel and redoing my Y of my roux en y.  I'm doing well so far.

Blind loop is where you have a section of the small bowel that for no known reason decides to stop functioning and becomes paralyzed.  Bacteria grows and causes an infection.  It can lead to partial obstruction, nausea, and vomiting.  When it would stop I would get terrible spasms that started around my belly button and would sometimes go to my right and back.  For years they told me the spasms were from adhesions.

I am almost 8 years post op and have had my share of other complications.  I've had 10 surgeries since my original bariatric surgery.  I'm hoping this last one will be it for me!  Power of positive thinking!!!

Thanks!
Stephanie

Yes, I was there on 14th....think I sat in front of you with my daughter and son in law.  Liked Dr. Lee a lot.........had a few issues with his nurses before surgery and getting my labs done.  And stomach definitely worst surgery I think I've ever had..........arms no pain at all.    Hopefully another week and will all be forgotten for most part.     Deb

Deb,
Congratualtions on your plastic surgery.  That would be a dream come true for me and I have'nt even had the surgery yet.  Hopefully in early Dec.  How did you like Dr. Lee?  I've always heard that the lower lift is the most painful of all the plastic surgeries.  Do you only go to the support group on the 4th Tuesday?  Pam

Penny,

Were you at the support group on the 14th at Concordia?  There were so many people there and that was my first time.  I finally got ahold of the accounts department and found out that my chart is finally with the surgery scheduler.  So hopefully I will know my date soon.  Pam

Topic: Need Accountability Partner
I was told I need to get an accountability partner for a food journal.  I would like to do it by email daily, but am open to any suggestions.  I'm not getting in enough protein.  Let me know if anyone is interested!

I am almost 8 years post op from a roux-en-y.  I just had a revision of the Y done and they removed about a foot of bowel.

Thanks,
Stephanie

Topic: RNY Revision?
Does anyone know of a good surgeon in the Midwest area (KY, TN, IN, IL) that does revisions from proximal to the distal RNY? I had surgery 4 years ago and it was supposed to have been a distal and I even asked my surgeon about it and he said that he did the distal but I found out that he did the proximal.   Thank you, Cherri

I wish I had kept my hose they gave me, but I didn't. Today I stepped on the scale and I am 7/10s away from my pre-op weight, so the extra fluids are just about gone!

Hope your healing and recovery go very well and uncomplicated.  I plan on going to the support group this next Tues - it will be my first time at that support group.  I will continue going to the one on the 2nd Tuesday also.

Have a great day - hope you get the drainage tubes out soon - that will make you feel so much better.

I have thought about a lower body lift - but knowing how painful it will be - just not sure about it.  But definately will do the arms.

Penny - I had my tummy and arms done on Tuesday by Dr. Lee.  Arms no pain.....but stomach really painful.  Had to do inverted T on stomach and extended a little into my back.  3 draining tubes.  Took off 10 pounds, but dr. said would look like 40 lbs. once swelling goes down.  Just have to get past this first week..    Asked him if my stomach worse he had seen........hesitated and said not THE worst, but it was bad.  5 hour surgery to do both.  23 hour stay.  I can give you more details at support group when I see you.
