Topic: RE: Has anyone had their surgery covered by Medicare?
I have Medicare and my secondary is Medicaid QMB and I paid absolutely nothing. If you don't have a secondary, I suggest getting the Medicaid. If you are on Medicare, you are automatically qualified for the QMB.
Topic: RE: anyone had open Roux-en-y???
Mine was Lap but I have had 2 C sections, Hysterectmy and exploratory surgery prior to my RNY. So my tummy has been cut open 4 times prior... You have to follow Dr orders don't lift until allowed, and mostly just stay clean and dry. Just remember the Dr wouldnt order it unless it was necessary and they do know how to help you recover. Just dont get in a hurry and WALK when they tell you too. I noticed all the surgerys it sure kept the soreness down to walk.
Best wishes!!

Topic: RE: Hew here- a couple questions
There are not many St Francis patients here on this board. I had surgery with Dr Mandelbaum at St Francis two years ago and have nothing but positive to say about him and the center. I know Dr Mandelbaum does the VSG. The center moved just about a year ago and some people have said they have trouble getting a person to answer the phone at the new center but I have not found that to be the case. I just enter a "0" and talk to the operator and have her connect me. Good luck with whatever you choose for yourself, I think both centers are equally as good but for me it was a matter of wanting to be closer to home for surgery and follow up care, its quite a long drive from Martinsville to the north side of Indy.

33 lbs lost prior to surgery!
Topic: RE: Hew here- a couple questions
I have had great experiences with St. Vincent's and Dr. Jones. I've had 3 surgeries - RNY 12/08. gall bladder removed 12/09 and hernia repair 06/10 and the staff, including collections, have all been really kind and caring. I even got a card from the surgery staff who attended at the last surgery.

My wife and I both had open RNY over 4 years ago. It was our choice because we wanted the Fobi pouch. It does take alittle longer to recuperate than the laproscopic, but it was worth it. I was worried about the scar, but in time it almost disappeared too.

Topic: anyone had open Roux-en-y???
I was just schedualed for "open" roux-en-y gastric bypass. I was under the impression that I was going to have laproscopic surgery. Now I'm totally freaking out. I'm scared about being cut and laid open. Has anyone else had this type of surgery? How did you do, such as healing and infections? Please help!

Hi Melissa,
I'm starting again too. Been off track for a bit, but now I am going back. I lost 130lbs and gained some back so now I have to rejoin the 100's club. I'm almost there. Congratulations on the birth of your baby girl, what a blessing! Just wanted to let you know, I am right there with you, restarting.

St V's has an entire section just for Bariatric patients. The staff know how to take care of us and they do a wonderful job of it! My stay 5 years ago was wonderful and my sons less than a year ago was great! I wouldnt have a worry going back to St V's.
