Weight loss the 1st week post op
I'm wondering what the average weight loss for the first week post op is? I did a two day liquid diet before my surgery and took Milk of Magnesia that first day as well - so I did lose 5 pounds from that. I did all of this last Wednesday, Dec. 27th. I weighed myself yesterday and today (I re-weighed myself like 20 times because I couldn't believe it.) Last Weds., I was 255. Yesterday I was 235. Today I am 232-233. I have lost a total of 22-23 pounds in a week!!!!!! I skipped the 240's!!!! Is this normal? I am actually able to eat some and keeping it down with no problems (cottage cheese, jello, cream of wheat, scrambled egg, mashed potatoes). Will my eating this early hurt my stomach or where my incisions on the inside are?
The pulmonary test was easy for me....They take you back...you sit in this chair...and they give you this funky looking apartaues to breath in...four big deep breaths out and liek 10 deep breaths in...the meausre it...I got like a 98 or 99...anything below like a 70? I think then you have to get the gas test....
good luck and you will be having yours before too long!!!
Hey Ross!!
Long time no hear! I'm very excited that your date is coming up - you will be on the "Losers" side soon!!! Yeah!! My only advice is to keep a very positive outlook. I know you will do fine. The gas is terrible - so please walk, walk, walk!!! ha ha You'll be praying for toots and burps - ha ha
I will pray for you and your medical team to come through this safely. I'll check on you next week, but if you need me for anything, please let me know. -Ginger
Ginger that is awesome!!! How did you do that?????
I had my surgery on 12-28-06, I had a pretty hard time, I didn't get home until wed., the gas pains just about killed me, I still can't pass it! Now I know why they say WALK, WALK, WALK. But as most of you know I can't, so it really got me. I still have my drain tube in, which I hope I will get out monday when I see Dr. Wheeler. But I am so happy! My sugar was always high, it ran around 175, that was with me taking 6 pills a day for high sugar, now it is 98! I have never seen those numbers before, I am so thrilled, to see such amazing results so soon! I was on 23 pills a day 10 days ago, now I am on a pain pill and stomach pill! I will get weighed next week, I can't tell if I have lost or not, I am still so swollen from the gas.
How much do you eat a day, and drink?
So proud of you and wasn't it great missing the 40"s !! HA
Leatha

Leatha,
Oh my gosh - I know about the gas. ha ha. I still walk around my island in my kitchen for at least 15 minutes at a time like 5 times a day. That REALLY helps. The more you walk the more you toot and burp - ha ha (We are crazy talking about toots and burps like they are ambrosia...hee hee.)
Praise God about your sugar. This surgery is a miracle in itself to heal your sugar problems - I am so happy for you.
I am still swollen too. I would have bet you a million dollars that I hadn't lost anything, because I look bigger than I did when I went in. The swelling does seem to go down every day though. I started just drinking - proti hot cocoa, water, sf popsicles, water, broth, water, sf jello, water. I couldn't get enough water - I even woke up in the middle of the night to get drinks. I guess I was little dehydrated. Around the 4th day post op, I just felt hungry. I ate some ff cottage cheese (2 tsp in about a 1/2 hour). That stayed down great and I felt full and satisfied. The next day I ate some more cottage cheese, and ate a little bit of mozarella cheese off the top of a pizza (I know this sounds horrible, but I only had two pinches of it). My stomach wasn't perfect with it, but after about an hour, it settled down. The next day, I ate about 1/2 of a scrambled egg - very slowly. It did make me feel kinda bad and I have decided to wait on this for a week or so. Cream of wheat was next, 1 serving as on the box with Butter Buds and Sweet and Low. It tasted great! The consistency was perfect and the warmth was great. Definitely my favorite so far. Over about 1/2 hour or so, I ate the whole serving. One night for dinner we had chicken tenders, mashed potatoes and broccoli with a light cheese sauce. I ate a little of everything, but I pinched the chicken up like I was feeding a baby and got a total of about 1/2 oz. and I poured a little of the cheese sauce with the tiny broccoli flowers in it on my potatoes - yummy. I only ate about a medicine cup of that but I was full by then and SOOOOO satisfied! I got a Magic Bullet for Christmas to puree things quick and I use it for cream of broccoli soup - very good and one can of soup will be enough for three meals or snacks. My favorite Protein drink so far is using the Fuzzy Navel protein mix with a bunch of ice and pouring SF apple juice over it. Blend until it is like a frozen drink. Yummy - but you need to drink it in 2 hours or the protein loses it's benefits, so I make mini drinks - like 4-6 oz size. I also like the ready to drink chocolate drinks - put that over ice and blend and it is like a choc shake - also YUMMY.
The only two things I am consistent with so far is WATER and walking. My protein intake hasn't gotten to the 60-70 grams consistently each day, but it will get there.
Good luck with everything and I will pray for you to bounce back quickly. Please let me know if I can help. HUGSSSSSS - Ginger
Hi Leatha,
I have been wondering about you and praying that all went well...Glad to see you back on the board...Glad you are home...Hang in there...Crystal light makes a powder to mix with water that is really good...SF...also Wal Mart brand fruit punch...The best protein I have found is Body Fortress Whey Isolate Protein...can get it at Wal Mart...Target...Kroger...it mixes well and is quite tasty...comes in van. choc. and fruit punch...and is pretty cheap...about $13.00 for a large container...Stick to the diet your Dr. gave you...Don't pu**** by trying to add solid foods before he recomends it...
Hope some of this helps...
