Approval from Humana HMO?

Has anyone gotten approval from Humana HMO lately? I have a written exclusion on my policy. I don't know if I have a chance of getting approved. Do you know if Saint Joseph East will set you up on a payment plan? It looks as if I will have to pay for the surgery if I want it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I GOT IT APPROVED BY HUMANA KKP, BUT DR. GELLAR TOLD ME THAT HUMANA WAS GOING TO EXCLUDE THEM SOON. THAT I GOT IN UNDER THE WIRE. IF YOU HAVE ANY EQUITY IN YOUR HOME I CAN GET YOU CASH OUT, AT A RATE AROUND 6.5. I HOPE NO ONE GETS MAD AT ME TALKING HOME LOANS. IM JUST FEELING SO MUCH BETTER I FEEL LIKE WORKING. IF I CAN HELP CALL ME.

Hi Deborah - I read your post, and just had to respond, although this pertains to Indiana law. From what I understand, in July of '96, Indiana made it so that Insurance companies HAD to pay for WLS IF it was medically necessary. Don't know if its the same everywhere, or if things have changed back since then, but that's what I heard...and I haven't heard that it's changed back.

I AM IN KENTUCKY AND IF THERE ISN'T A LAW THERE SHOULD BE. THESE INSURANCE COMPANIES WOULD REALLY SAVE MONEY LONG TERM.

Adrian - I have Humana (PPO) and our policy has an exclusion also. However, when I called and asked if they covered it, the lady I spoke with told me it WAS NOT covered, but that I should have my PCP submit a letter of "medical necessity". So that's what I did and now I'm waiting. I don't expect it to be approved because of the exclusion, but I had to try. The worst that can happen is they will say no. Good luck, Linda
