I sould suggest you call Dr. Sonnanstine's office and not the center. His staff will set you up to see him right away.
Topic: RE: having pain
I'm actually pre-op, so I can offer no personal advise on this topic. However, my daughter had RNY at Georgetown in 9/08 and had an emergency gallbladder removal in 4/09. It is my understanding that lots and lots of WLS patients follow this same progression.
Certainly hope you feel better soon!

Topic: having pain
Hi I had surgery a while back and lost several pounds now I am having pain in my upper right side...soemone told me it could be my gallbladder I called Georgetowne last week but nobody has called me back. I am going to see my family doctor today I was up all night with it. hopefully he can find someone to take this out of me or help me. i feel so sick alot and so much pain that it keeps me from eating they way i should. anyone here have gallbladder surgery and who did it? i thought Dr S would do it.
Topic: RE: Update
Just be careful with the Weiss/Oldham group. They never see you post-op and leave your post-op care to a nurse. They travel to a bunch of cities to do surgery and then skip town. I think they live in Lexington, KY and travel to 6 or 7 different cities on their private plane. They truly are a surgery mill and charge more than anyone else. I hear they are generally adequate technicians, but their care has much to be desired. If your in the Lexington area see Sonnastine at Georgetwon.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Hey all, still continuing to do well . Sip, Sip, Sip seems like that is all I do. I am 10 days out and I am having back pain. Anyone else have this? Is it normal? I thought maybe it was the gas trying to work its way out but am unsure. Thanks for any help. I am down 18 pounds!!

Topic: RE: Fresh out of surgery
Hi Gulie-
I too am RNY but there are bandsters here....give em time they check in. Most of the folks on this board are great about answering questions...so hang in. Also, though I am RNY they have been supportive of me which is awesome for me.
I think the best thing ever said to me was They fixed my stomach not my head and there are definately days I have to remember this. I find it is easy to slip into old habits so go as far as you can in the newbie phase. But when we use our tools (assuming no issues) they do work.
I wish you the very, very best with your band.
The other thing that you may try to consider....get to a support group. man oh, man do they make a difference. They will also give you people to call with questions and support.
best to you and KUDOS for taking your life back!

Topic: RE: Pre-Op VSG Diet - Oldham & Weiss
Me again Ethel. I don't know about the Doctors you asked about, but I can give you a great program to tell you EVERYTHING YOU WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT VSG. It is from Laparoscopic Associates of San Francisco. It has all the diets, procedures, care, and when to yell for your doctor.
I have it saved in "my documents". I just went there to find the web site I downloaded it from, but the web address is not there. If you want me to send it to you in a e-mail, I can.
I'm [email protected] or tell me how to load it in this forum....John

Don't blame me. I voted for Sarah......
Topic: RE: VSG & Carbonated Beverages
I always thought I could eat nails and not have any trouble, BUT, now I have problems with carbonated drinks. What I do now is buy the sugar free drinks in the 2 liter bottle, take off the bottle cap and leave it off for a few days. I thought this would take all the carbonation out, but there is just a little left. I still drink it but remember sip, sip, sip. It lets me know that "all is not OK in John's tummy", but I can live with it. It always helps if you put a little rum in it (settles the fizzes I think).
I have tried the same thing with beer. I took the cap off, put a bottle in the fridge, came back 2 days latter, and there was still to much fizz left. Two more days, and I drank it, but then the taste was not worth the calories. Never again.
Don't let the carbonated drinks keep you from your surgery. Crystal light comes in many flavors. You can even buy Margaretta light that comes in a powder, like Crystal light, sugar and carb free. Just add Tequila. Wow. Makes your head spin......John
