Dr. Allen and USA surgeons in Louisville charge around 125.00 for a fill.  Dr. Gellers are around 250.00.   Now I think all the surgeons in those 3 groups will charge a person that had surgery elsewhere a fee if you need the phone numbers I would be glad to provide them for you or I can even check for you if you would like

Just wanted to add my 2 cents.  I am a Dr. Rodriquez patient, your experience is not uncommon, some drs may enter a certain area and then wiggle the needle around to hit the port.   I have never had him have to wiggle the needle around and ha**** my port every time.   I think he awesome so give him a chance.

Amanda,
Don't give up. I am currently in the process of trying to get insurance approval from a lapband to DS. I lost and then regained and am back where I started as well. The DS is a very powerful surgery with greater success. There is a ton of information on the DS on DSFacts.com and other websites.

DS Facts also has a list of surgeons and revision surgeons. I chose Dr. Hugh Houston in Nashville and there is also Dr. Spaw in Nashville, but there are others around as well. However, since the revision from RNY to DS is complicated there are only a few surgeons that can/will perform it. Be very selective about your surgeon!

Good luck and here is another website that another OH member shared with me. http://www.dshess.com/

Highest Weight:  564 /  Post Band Pre DS Weight:  508 / Surgey Date Weight:  449
Current Weight:  209 / Goal Weight:  150 (BMI of 25).

Amanda, please don,t give up on yourself you deserve to live a better life.  Please talk to the RNY revisions, who now have DS,there is a man,who had the RNY,for 20 some years and got the DS. and he has had the DS,for about 7 or 8 years,he raves about living again.  It will not cost you nothing to stop by the DS board, there is a lot of people,RNY changed to DS.  And just remember were talking about your health.  I will say, I love my DS,for the 1 st time I,ve diet, and get to eat what I want.    I do not dump from either end, and the only thing,is I get a little gas if I eat a lot of bread or noodles,or flour products, but, I eat those things in moderation.    Sugar, does not affect me at all, and if the sweet tooth rares it ugley head, I try fruit 1st,if that don,t work, I eat a bite size candy bar,it fixes the problem.  DS,is not a low-fat diet, we need to have fat in take, but we only absorb, about 17 percent,so we can have bacon, butter, and so on,and never affect us at all.  I hope you may find some happiness.

Topic: My Date Update...
 Hello

I was given a new date today. Instead of 9-30 now it is 9-27. I know it's just a 3 day difference but it went in a positive direction. We are still waiting on the approval from Anthem of KY, and if they can get it they might can get me in on Thursday 9-16 but I really dont think we'll get it. So 13 days and counting.....

Good luck everyone

Amanda, I,m so sorry you have to go thru this, but your not alone neither, there are alot of RNY and Lap Bands, getting revisions to the DS, and check out DS facts. and the DS board, ask those, who gave up there RNY,and how they are doing with the DS. This is in no way, meaning to start no WLS wars.    I just letting you know your not a lone, and you may, find support there.  I hope the best for you, and I,ll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi Kelley, I had the surgery 5 months ago...so it isn't an issue of considering it. I've been there, done that. :)

I'm sorry your mom had such a hard time; my recovery wasn't bad at all...it was what one would expect from an abdominal surgery:take it easy for about a week, feeling more human in about 2 weeks... The surgery is typically laproscopic so the recovery for either procedure would be about the same: in both surgeries the surgeon would place the band, secure it, and secure the port.  There's no extra chain-saw action going on that the Realize Band requires for placement. ;)

Both Lap Band and Realize are reversible. Ideally no one goes in to surgery planning to have it removed one day, but the option is there for both brands of gastric banding.

The bit about liquid meds is true--anything bigger than the tip of my pinky needs to be crushed, cut in half or liquid...and that isn't fun. :) But it is worth the effort to me. It is just medicine, afterall. I'm surprised that your mom got a pill stuck--the size of what I would/wouldn't be able to swallow after surgery was drilled in to my head pre-op, so when in doubt I always crush/chew more/get a liquid version of...
