Thanks for the vote of confidence! :) You know how it is when you're brand-new to a place and just aren't sure about anything...:) It has been about 2 weeks since the fill and it certainly feels tighter, though I haven't lost a pound...LOL...it is like my superpower, really, the ability to hold on to fat despite all attempts and logic...LOL

Topic: 4 yr anniversary and disgusted!!!
I dont come here very often anymore but thought since Tuesday 9/14 will be my 4th yr anniversary from having rny that I would come and see how everyones doing. I dont see much of the people that use to be on here when I was so maybe I can share my story with the newbies... 4 yrs ago I had rny weighing in at 300 lbs the day of my consultaion 289 day of surgery the weight just feel off of me for 8 or 10 mths I lost a total of 120 lbs. Wow was I happy, I felt the best I had felt in many yrs. Well the weightloss stopped then I gradually started regaining it back so here I am today 4 yrs later weighing around 250 lbs. It really makes me sick to think I done this to myself after all Iv been through. Yes the surgery worked well but the longer I went the more I could eat the more I wanted. Was it worth it not really, Now Iv gained all but 50 lbs back and I have to live the rest of my life fat and still have to tell doctors, hospitals and such that I had gastric bypass. its very embarressing for them to see me this big and to know I had surgery to help me yet Im still fat. I cant take medication that I need , Im always weak and feel bad all the time. I just wanted to tell my story so that if your considering having this surgery and you think your never going to gain it back and that you can just eat what you want, well you cant or you will gain it back. I know now that if I had kept up the work such as eating right, exercising and all I would have never have regained this weight. But I didnt and here I am praying everyday that god give me the strength to lose it again or atleast enough to where I can live a normal life.

Call Dr. John Olsafka's office in Louisville.  They are at ST Mary and Elizabeth or at Audubon.  I'm not sure what their charge is for fills for patients who aren't theirs.  I know after 2 years mine are either 50 or $75.

I don't know the doctor that you are speaking about but my step mom has the surgury you are  leaning toward and there are so many things that she goes through because of it. yes she lost i thnk like 100 pounds maybe more, but because of it she can no long swallow pills she has to have liquid medication, she had a pill get stuck one time so know its liquid or power. also that surgury is not reversible, and the recovery time from it is much longer than the lap band. I have a close friend that just had the lap band surgury done and the recover time from it was just a week or two. its reversible, i would never have that surgury mostly because she said when she woke up she felt like they took a chainsaw to her insides. You have to make your own opion but thats just what I think.

Right now I am working on some stuff for Breast Cancer awareness...I am involved in an art auction, walks..and some fun event at the hospital..lots going on in Sept-Oct.  But I tell you what, if you guys can find time I will make time for a get together...I have not been involved in any support at all since Dr. Sonnanstine moved to G-town, with the exception of his support (which is priceless).  I would love to have our own fun little thing going.  I have contact with make-up people, jewelry, etc etc...we can do our own little event.  ;-0
Dr. Sonnanstine would love to see his patients involved in support.  I myself struggled for awhile, had to get myself together. I am now down almost 20 lbs ..I am loving this new found strength and getting back to compliance.  ...just makes you feel more powerful.  not to mention I feel great!  more energy, ..emotional stronger.  we should share how we are feeling.  it helps so much!

I have a friend who had her surgery done by him and she thinks highly of him.

As for me, I went to an educational seminar on WLS that he presented and I wasn't terribly impressed.  He was very gung ho on the lap band (which I was positive wasn't the right surgery for me) and I didn't like his rather one-sided perspective.  He even put me on the spot in front of the entire group at the seminar and asked why I wanted RNY instead of a band!  I didn't think that was necessary at all.  The success rate that he quoted for the band was considerably higher than what was in the printed materials they distributed at the seminar, too.

He's probably fine for your follow up needs, especially since you are a band patient and he's so enthusiastic about them.

Good luck with everything!
