Topic: something old and something new
Hello everyone...the something old is me. I am really feeling it. lol
I am working long hours at a job I just love. Being trained as what we call a "super user"..
I am the one they call on with computer problems or questions in our new system at the Breast Center so things are pretty much non stop, from the time I walk in the door till the time I leave.
I like what I do ...but OIY..I am not as young as I use to be.
Now for the new stuff. I spoke with Dr. Sonnanstine earlier today, he was very happy about the changes in his life within the last few months when he and wife Debbie welcome their 3rd son Alex into the world..and now his new partner. Dr. Rasmussen ...his words..(he is a welcome addition to a busy, growing practice) You guys know Dr. S by now. He is so protective and controlling of his patients, he isn't changing a thing..lol .
I hope I can get down there soon to meet Alex and Dr. Rasmussen.
Good luck to up coming surgeries and hang in there for those struggling..you are not in this alone.
we need to get this board active again. I know I know..summers are just so busy. for me to. sorry been gone so long.
Oh, by the way. I am 7 yrs out ..I do fluctuate a few lbs and was up my highest (gaining 20 lbs)...I do treat this as an addiction..for me, it is!!! I am back on track and down 10 lbs..been very compliant and strict the last few wks. If you are struggling..don't give up..you can do it!!!!

Topic: BEEN A YEAR!!!
i hit my year mark about two and a half weeks ago..i thought i would get up and post immediately that day but i didnt...i guess the day was just overwhelming...i was reflecting on where i was -where i have been-and where i am going....this year has past by quick and i dont always see all the differences in myself...but at other times it is so overwhelming. food is still an issue for me...i now eat off saucers and try and keep within a certain calorie amt ( not very successful) i know this will be a constant struggle for the rest of my life...like any addiction ...its one day at a time...i am very proud of myself i have worked hard - i am currently active at the YMCA something i always "attempted" to do before but if im honest i never did it whole-heartedly...i am training for a half marathon with my best friend...the way my life has changed is astonishing..i am down to losing about a lb a week on average...slow but stil steady...i thank God everyday for the miracle he has given me of a healthier and happier life...i wish you all wonderful success...keep me in your prayers!

just got ok'd to have the stomach skin removal. My bariatric surgeon says I must have a second opinion. I have Anthem insurance thru the State of Indiana. The top tier plan. Anyone know of a plastic surgeon that will take that insurance. I am so sick of the infected skin and carrying baby wipes with me everywhere.

Topic: RE: Gastric Sleeve???
While the sleeve is becoming proven, (if you follow docs instructions and eat an RNY diet) not many insurance are covering it...some ARE starting to pick it up...but at this point, not many...
What some doctors do is fight for the sleeve by saying there is a health issue that causes the RNY or DS to be unsafe as a single step surgery. That the sleeve will need to be done to reduce weight and risks associated as stage 1 of a 2 stage operation plan. but the DOCTORS HAVE to fight for it with this info....
As for your mom's coverage - she should get the policy that covers HER plan...specifically the section that covers her bariatric surgery options. Make sure it's HER rider, not the generic one - as some employers don't pick up weight-loss or bariatric surgery riders to save money....

I am in hopes that Medicare pays for the sleeve in 2011 and I am having my band replaced with it too.

I have Humana with Kentucky State Employee's, I am trying to get my band replaced with the sleeve. Early stages, getting paper work completed.
Topic: RE: Bluegrass Bariatrics
I had a lap band in January 09 all I can say is the surgeons are good the aftercare is poor. Just as others have posted, I never saw the surgeon again, only the PA. I will say though I contacted their office to get my records and ended up talking to the Hazard office. They were very nice and processed my request quickly. (Of course I am waiting on the records to come from the Lexington office still).
Highest Weight: 564 / Post Band Pre DS Weight: 508 / Surgey Date Weight: 449
Current Weight: 209 / Goal Weight: 150 (BMI of 25).

i dont believe that insurance covers the sleeve. Talking to my doctors office, they told me it was UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Cigna, and BCBS or Michigan. So, far. But rumors are there are more insurances that will be covering it soon.
Good luck, Holly
