Airport Security and The Lap Band

I've traveled several times by plane since being banded and NEVER had a problem with going thru the metal detector But all that changed this past week This past Tuesday I was at the airport with the DH heading down to Savannah, Ga to visit some friends and family....well at the airport I strolled thru the metal detector with NO PROBLEMS.....got to my gate and was sitting there waiting for my flight when all of a sudden the TSA decided to do 2 random searches of passengers boarding and lo and behold I was pulled aside by 2 TSA agents. The male agent opened my bags and went thru them and the female agent went over my entire body with the hand held wand and guess what when she passed the wand over my belly I beeped!! Then she had to do her pat down and still couldn't figure out why I beeped After she finished...I took out my Lap Band ID card and showed it to her....she said she never saw such a thing and was VERY happy that I showed her and I ever let her feel my port for future reference So lesson here....if the TSA has to wand you...be prepared to beep and ALWAYS carry your Lap Band ID card Jane aka The LI Princess 288/174/145 in 2005 -114lbs

Wow, Jane, that's really funny! Wonder what they would have done if you hadn't had your card?!?! I never noticed, but you and I are SO close, in our accomplishments! You had your surgery a month before me, and from there, it's weird! We've both done terrific, and Kudos to both of us! Sharon 290/175/150

We sure are Sharon...but I'm on another plateau at the moment But that's ok because I feel great and I know in time I'll be losing again. I think my body likes to spend 2 months at a certain weight...then it decides it's time to start losing again This is my 3rd MAJOR plateau since being banded! Jane

Where did you get your Lap-Band ID card?

If your surgeon used the Inamed band...he should have a "goodie bag" to give you on your post-op visit. In the bag it contains alot of litature about your new band and an ID card for you to carry that states you have a lap band in you and it shows an x-ray photo of one on the back...there's also a space on it to put your MD's name, phone # and Fax # Jane

The ID card is wonderful. I haven't had the airport experience, but I went to a sporting event today and had brought a tote with a few healthier snacks. They weren't going to let me in with a carry-in until I showed them my card explaining why I needed to bring in special food. Like someone said....never leave home without it!

Wow Jane, I travel a lot (including for business) and all over the world, have been wanded more times than I care to count and never had that happen ... good to know though, there's a first for everything! I do think having the card is essential in case I am in an acciden but I guess it is good to have for this too!
