band frustration....
Most docs want a few days of clears right after surgery, then we can move on to full lquids.
During those few days on clears, I feel we need some good calories for energy and nutrition to heal. I don't feel there is a need for SF things this early, when we are trying to get good calories in! Calories are energy - and we need energy to heal and move around well to prevent post-op complications.
then, when we move on to full lquids- we can get good nutrition much more easily.
We do need to follow our doc's post-op orders - - or negotiate a compromise with him/her !
There is nothing at all wrong with SF things later on, when we want to use our calorie "allotment" for meats and veggies and not sugar.
I love SF apple cider and SF hot chocolate, as well as SF jello puddings. The SF DaVinci syrups and sauces are wonderful ( www.davincigourmet.com ) With some SF things though, we have to be careful, since SF does not always mean low-cal! SF stuff is made primarily for diabetics who cannot process sugar - so some things are sweetened with sweeteners even higher-cal than sugar.

Not sure what you mean... Milk is not forbidden!! We can have 1-2 glasses a day of nonfat milk, for the good calcium. Nonfat dairy is a very impt food group - milk, cheese, low-cal yogurt, etc.
I love milk and had 2 glasses a day - and 3 now that i am at goal.
How can anyone have the fiber cereals we need without milk?
Milk is the one exception (imo) to the "avoid liquid calorie" basic band rule.
Other liquids are best avoided though - including all juices which are 99% sugar. I don't want to incite a riot, but I also believe protein drinks should be avoided, as do most docs, including Dr. Curry here - except in the brif times of band trouble. . they are exactly the type of high-calorie liquids that so easily sabotage optimum loss - and it's pretty easy to get in the protein we need from the solid protein that makes the band WORK for us.
There is no proof at all that artifical sweeteners are bad for us - but each to their own. I have several big glasses of Crystal lite every day for the last 5 + yrs, , and have lived so far..
