How long after banded to weight for a "BM"?

Crazy question that I should have asked my surgeon about while I had her on the phone today. I havent "gone" since Sunday, the night before my procedure and am worried that is too long. I know that since I am on stage III diet, I can take Milk of Magnesia if needed but I dont know if I do and have never really been constipated so dont even know what it feels like. I am still pretty gassy from the surgery... Any ideas?

BTW, the spelling of the word weight in the title of this post is wrong, wrong, wrong and was completely unintentional. May have been a freudian slip though?

Well, as long as I was gassy I was having diarrhea. My surgeon wanted me to take stool softner as long as I was taking pain medication, lets just say it caused the diarrhea.

You could ask your Dr. if a softner might work better than a laxative. I cant tell how long it would have been because of the pills my dr had me taking but it was around 8 days out for anything somewhat normal.

Hope thats not TMI..

Be careful with the vicodin, it's extremely constipating. I'd take some stool softener to prevent that atleast. I had the lovely diarhea/gas thing, so no help with the when...

Hey, I have my surgery on Monday and stool softener was the one thing I forgot. DO you have any brand you recommend? I've never had to take it in the past . . .

Ya, if you are taking vicodin, I am surprised your dr didnt tell you to take some stool softner. I only had to take it twice, and I was only taking 2 partial doses of lortab a day pretty early on from getting home, but my dr prescribed an over the counter stool softner just because it is a known bad side effect.

I had lap band surgery 2/13/08. My digestive system has changed a great deal.  I now take 2 peri-colace EVERY NIGHT before bed JUST TO KEEP ME REGULAR.

Peri-colace has a mild stimulant in them to help move things along. Stool softener won't MAKE YOU GO, it will only help "soften" things so to speak, smoother transition if you will.

If you are constipated for more than a couple days, PLEASE CALL YOUR DR and ask them what to do. If you are in pain, and need immediate relief, they may advise you to take a couple FLEET ENEMAS, to help you get almost instant relief. I did that and the next day I felt soooo much better. I also had double/triple dose of MIRILAX, per my dr's instructions (also advised me on the FLEET ENEMA), and took a couple more peri-colace for a couple days. I am feeling much better, thankfully. But I am guessing because you have gone several days with no BM, you could be in for some major pain if you don't get that stuff out of your body. Ask your dr about FLEET ENEMA, Mirilax & peri-colace. If you need instant relieft that is what my dr has instructed me to take.

Hope you feel better soon. Take care & good luck.
