Girdle or Spanx?

I have read post about spanx and i'm wondering what the difference is between spanx and a girdle. I have been wearing a girdle from Lane Bryant. I don't wear it everyday though. Any insight is appreciated.

Spanx are kind of a full body thing... or otherwise like tight tights... lol. I wear a full tighting body suit that I saw on TV. It lifts the butt, chest, holds the tums in, etc, etc. :)

From what I've heard, Spanx is just a form of a girdle.

I'm 55 years old, and I haven't heard the word "girdle" for about 40 years (I'm not saying you're as ancient as I am, I'm just saying it's an older term).  When I was a teen, I wore a tight elastic girdle with clips in front and back to hold up my nylons.  Ten years later, panyhose arrived on the scene and I gave up the girdle.  Since then, many manufacturers have come out with support-wear like Spanx, Lipo-In-A-Box, and other products that may not be as tight and restrictive as the old girdles, but still keep your body "firm".  I can't do that any more.  I'm all about comfort, even if my tummy rolls out in a couple of folds.

I really like the way my girdle holds my stomach and back fat in. It isn't the most comfortable thing though. Do you wear your spanx everyday? My girdle is underwear that come up right below my breast.
I'm willing to try new things. Just not sure how to go about finding the right size.

Hi - I can't comment on the comfort of effictiveness of spanx because i have never tried them. but i just picked up a full body suit from Lipo in a Box - which i heard about on OH last week - and it's great as girdles go. Soft, comfortable support (in both the tummy and the chest) and the hooks are very easy to open and close. In the past i have always worn Glamorise girdles, which offer a great slimming effect, but they are stiff - and in my opinion do nothing for the boobs.

I thought that spanx were for the leggs and the rear only. Not sure.

I have 3 Spanx camisoles and one Spanx top with a build in liner for extra support.  I love them!  Not everyone will like them so if possible go to Lane Bryant, Macys, Nordstroms or somewhere they're sold and try on one until you find the style you like.   Buy one and wear it, see how you like it.  Some people complain that it rolls up on them.  I don't have that problem.  I don't have any bottoms yet but am thinking about getting some.

Spanx are more like very controlling stockings (& very expensive)  they hold in wherever they cover.  The "girdle" like products from lane bryant also control but in a more gentle way, they last longer and are more durable to wash & wear.  I combine them by using the spanx stockings with the full girdle over, just feels more secure and restroom access is easy and nothing is shaking and wiggling.  Talk about the full armour of God!  LoL

Spanx are AMAZING they are my favorite! I get the higher power panties and they go from right underneath your bra to right above ur knee! They hold you in really well and are VERY light and comfortable. Spanx are all i've ever used so i don't know how to compare them to a girdle but i love spanx so i just had to put in my two cents! :)
