success with papaya enzyme?

Hi there

Ok I think I'm stuck - I over did a bit on Friday night, felt fine but then Saturday after I drank a bunch of water during my workout I got the achey pouch feeling.. things still go through but, it is achey and I know this feeling all too well.

Last time this happened (i know, stupid me) I went and had some fill taken out, solved the problem, then 2 weeks ago I got 1/2 that fill put back in.. now (stupid) I've somehow done this again

SO - this time I'm trying the papaya enzyme route that so many bandsters have mentioned. I've taken my 4 chews and am also sipping on warm pineapple juice (another recommendation), warm tea etc

Has anyone had good success with this clearing things up? How long until I should expect to feel something? I got some gurgling now and then but thats about it (lol)

I do NOT want more fill taken out - note to self, knock it off!

Melissa,

Papaya enzymes and pineapple juice have never worked for me.  I've heard of dissolving meat tenderizer in warm liquid and swallowing it, but if the stuck food isn't meat, I don't know if that would work.

I suspect that what's really going on with you right now is that your stoma is irritated.  I've had it take 2-3 days for my stoma to recover from a bad stuck episode.  So I suggest that you stick with a liquid diet for another day.

I don't blame you for not wanting any fill taken out - been there, done that.

I think that you have a couple of issues going on.  First, you said that you drank alot of water.  If it was quick and very cold you could have just momentarily ceased you band up so tha****er would not flowed well.  I have had that happen and it hurts.

The gugling noise can be that you have swallowed too much air.

Other than that, yes I have tried papaya enzyme and it does seem to me that it helped but it did take 15- 20 minutes to work moderately well.

to me it sounds like you are more irritated or swollen than you are stuck.. I'd sip hot tea or anything soothing for a couple of days and eat something smooth like jello until the swelling goes down.  Myself, I drink my peppermint tea's and/or sip on Aloe Vera juice with mint to help it heal.

the Papaya I only use when I am stuck on some meat or fruit.. I don't eat it all day long or for days..

but as always.. if you are concerned.. call your doc..

good luck!..

Nope I have never had any success. Only waiting it out has helped me. Go back on liquids for a couple days afterwards. I was also told during this time to take some kinda acid reducer (pepcid AC or something) to help with the pouch irritation.

I have NEVER had success with papaya enzyme.  As a matter of fact, it made things worse.
I would already have stuck episodes and adding water along withe the papaya enzyme stopped things up even more.  I would not recommend it for
Bandsters.

well happy to report the papaya enzyme hasn't made things worse (thank goodness)  - I'm feeling a tiny bit better but planning to stay on warm liquids today/tomorrow and then if things are not a-ok by tomorrow evening I'll call the surgeon and schedule a visit

Appreciate your help and support! Still cant believe I did this to myself

VSG on 01/23/13 with
Papaya enzyme usually works for me everytime....I guess everyone is different, though.

I also agree with the others that you should call your dr and stick with liquids/soft/mushies for a while. Better safe than sorry....
