Back in the day....I was a PhenFen patient. I did REALLY well and lost 70 lbs in 6-7 months. Thankfully I did not suffer any of the other side affects. T

he way the pills worked for me was to one...take away the majority of my hunger and two...when I did eat, I couldnt eat as much. I can remember WANTING a pi**a SO bad...ordering it and thinking I was gonna tear it up! LOL I would have one slice and be satisfied...couldnt eat anymore and I was happy.

Just wonering if in your experiences this may be similar to the band.

Thanks :)

I have taken phentermine the safe half of phenfen and it was wonderful I too lost weight. It takes away the head hunger much better than the band. With the band you can not over eat on solid food it is impossible. But your mind may want to eat even though you are not hungry. With the phen you do not want to eat, nothing sounds good nothing looks good and on a rare chance you do see something you want to eat you are sat with just a little because you are just not into food that much.

I was put on PhenFen when i was about 23 and had a terrible time.  My hunger was controlled in fact I found myself not eating at all but, I was affected emotionally with it.  I was depressed and angry.  My husband told me that he would rather me gain than suffer the way that I was.

I was on PhenFen in '96, and like you lost 70 pounds in about 6months. I gained all my weight back when I stopped taking it....No complications though, luckily!
15 pounds lost pre-op!

Mary,

I took PhenFen for 3 months.  Lost about 9 lbs, spent a lot of money, and gained the weight back the instant I stopped (I ran out of money).

PhenFen didn't seem to affect my physical hunger or satiety.  Rather, it made me care less about food.

As someone else said, the band won't do anything for head hunger, but it should decrease how much you can eat at one time (one piece of pizza versus the whole pizza) and keep you satisfied longer.

I was a phenFen girl and let me tell you. I dropped 65 lbs so quick and when they pried the last pill from my hand I gained back 87 so much quicker! ugh~

Yes, the satisfaction piece of the band is very similar.  The bonus is that the band physically limits the volume you can intake and you'll remain satisfied longer.

What a fantastic tool!

With the right level of restriction I would compare the band to phentermine (what I took). It suppressed my appetite and I think it's the only diet pill that truly does this effectively....

I took PhenFen and lost 40 lbs, but it made me such an emotional wreck, it was'nt worth it. I gained it all back and more.

I took it back in 96.  I lost 20lbs the first month.  I couldn't believe it!  I would sit down to eat and got that feeling that I just didn't want any food.  I really don't remember what I ate, maybe I didn't eat at all.  I wish I could recall.....but I ended up losing 50lbs with it until they took it off the market.

To compare to the band....I'd say probably not the same...but it was a long time ago.  My mother took the drug and I think she was one that it caused issues with her heart!  Fortunately they checked me and I'm OK.
