I have an appt next month for this Medgem. Its supposed to be a breathing exercise, in which they test your metabolism.

Anybody had this? Is it helpful?

Ive had a metabolism test done before where you breathe into a tube for 10 minutes with your nose clipped...not sure if that is the same thing. All the dr told me from reading the results was that my metabolism was normal and I shouldnt have any trouble losing weight on my own...yeah...right.

I also just had a breathing test done Monday PFT test, one of my Pre-ops. I get the re****s of that Friday and hopefully they are good enough that I dont have to have the sleep study done.

good luck

All I can tell you is what I found by Googling. It doesn't LOOK too horrific . . .

Hi Bette!
Have been off the board for a while and was searching for the Wed. Bit$H FEST.  What happened to it?  I always enjoyed it, eventhough I didn't participate often.  Fun!

Hey there!

I've had a couple of crappy months and I was afraid that if I started a B*TCHFest post, one of two things (or worse, BOTH) would happen:

1. My list owuld get so long I'd blow out PH's server

2. There would be so much profanity that not just OH, but the entire Internet would ban me for life.

I just had this metabolism test done 2 weeks ago before my port replacement surgery.  It took only about 10 minutes.  They put info in a computer with my weight, BMI, sex, etc.  Then theu plugged my nose and I had to breathe in and out through an air tube similar to what asthmatics use for nebulizers.  After the 10 minutes I got a print out of how many calories my body would burn at rest. It also let me know on a scale of low, medium, high-I have a fairly high metabolism.  Who would have thunk it?

Anyway every few months they will retest me and let me know how my body is shaping up.
