Food at Disney
VSG on 03/04/13
We are going in July as well. I am not worrying about eating while there because I am sure I will be able to eat something I will defintaly have a protein shake before I go and will try to take one with me so if there is nothing out there I can at least have protein.
We went to disney work about 3 months after my surgery. I got myself into trouble a few times, but eventually one just learns to make a meal out of what you have. We ate at lots of different restaurants and I just made due with what was available. Sometimes it may seem hard, but just tell the waiter/waitress what kind of food you are looking for and most people will have something to help you. Breakfast was the hardest for me as I am very tight in the morning. What I have eventually found that helps is to drink a hot liquid, such as coffee, hot tea, hot cocoa when you get up and that will hydrate you and help your restriction loosen up so you can eat something for breakfast. I, to this day, still don't eat much solid for breakfast. I usually do oatmeal or thin grits, which you can get at almost any restaurant.
Good luck and have lots of fun on your trip.

We go about once a month, I always bring in my food. We can only afford quick service and there are really no options for me right now! I hope you have a wonderful trip!!
If you need a good restaurant that is off property and close to Universal you should try Sweet Tomatos! It is one of my favs! Its a HUGE salad bar with about 6 different soup options!
Stasha,
first let me just tell you...there is any kind of food you could ever want and/or need at Disney. DH and I were dieting when we went back in August...but we were too weak and overcome by temptations. You should not have a problem with choices.
Second...its gonna be flippin HOT! That was our first trip. We didnt get from our rooms to the elevators in the hotel without breaking into a sweat so drink PLENTY of water. I must have drank 3 gallons a day!
This website helped me plan my trip so much...and you can find out lots of good into:

Good Luck and have a GREAT time!

We went last July (and are going again this coming July as well!) and I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of healthy food choices at Disney. My only recommendation would be to make sure you're at a comfortable fill level (no stuck-ness for a couple of weeks when eating solid food) or maybe even see if your surgeon will take a little out if you're concerned about getting stuck while out of town. You can also share with the other people in your group.
I definitely agree with the previous poster about the water -- it's an absolute necessity there.
One of my favorite restaurants there that had a really good band-friendly menu was the Yak and Yeti in Animal Kingdom, if you like Asian food. I forget what it was called, but I had this chicken appetizer that was pretty much the Vietnamese answer to build-your-own soft taco with Boston lettuce leaves. Yeah, kind of defies description, but it was pretty tasty! Good luck and have fun!!!

We just went to Disney last weekend.....there were many good choices...I ate a protein bar for breakfast...Disney there was rotiserie chicken, salad, the famous turkey legs, steaks, bbq, fruit...lots of good food choices available....of course it was too cold so they didn't have the ice cream stands stands open....oh and be careful of Epcot...French pastries, Italian canoli..you get the idea...but enjoy there are some great food choices......
When we stayed at the Animal Kingdom lodge they will make dietary accomodations for you...
Biggest thing for me was I brought my own water bottle and kept it filled...lots of water fountains around....kept sipping...no drinking and eating...it helps
