How long did you stay in the hospital

Im just wondering how long you had to stay in the hospital...During my consult, the surgeon said I would probablly be home the same day unless something unexpected happened.

Yesterday I went in for all of my pre-op testing and NUT class. Pretty much everyone said I would be staying over night. I am a self pay patient and the hospitla registration folks asked for another $4,500 bucks! Hello...I had just handed them a $10, 000 check!

The registration person came back to me and said it was only extra if I was staying the night.

I do have a call in to the office to try and get this figured out...Just wondering what was common. I dont have any real health issues other than the weight...slightly highter cholesterol and bp and I have never had any other surgeries.

Thanks for your input. :)

We are all so different. Most stay 23hrs. or less. Me, well I do not do well with anesthesia so I was there 2days. BP in the 80'sand oxygen in the 60's. I had to take oxygen home for three weeks! Anyways, you will be fine. The geneal population is out the same day. I have never been the "normal" one!! Angel

My surgeon works out of 2 locations - one is a hospital, and one is an outpatient center.  Depending on insurance, it will determine where the surgery is done.

I have UHC - and I would have to stay at the hospital for one night (providing that the surgery is approved, we're still waiting to hear... keep your fingers crossed!!)

Anyway - I think since you're cash pay it could probably be done outpatient.  Just communicate with the patient advocate at the office, or your surgeon.  They'll be able to tell you more!  Good Luck.

I had my surgery at a surgery center. Surgery at 12 and was on my way home by 4. The only people who my doctor has have surgery at the hospital are people who have sleep apnea to the extent that they're rejected by the surgery center because it's not safe.

Wow, so many different responses...That shouldnt be a suprise since Ive been reading the boards and I  REALLY do see how much we are all different in this journey.

They bumped my surgery from 8 am to 11. I do remember hearing that 23 hour thing...so I guess that would put me at 10 am the next day. Wonder if they count from the time they ask you to be there or the time of surgery.

Just thinking out loud here...LOL

Still waiting for the call from the dr office.

Thanks again for the replies...20 MORE DAYS!! Yay! I CANT WAIT!
