Banded 8 days ago and hungry

I was banded last Wednesday and am down 16 pounds already (I am sure it was water weight and gas lol).  But the problem is, I always feel hungry and hear my belly rumble ALLL THE TIME, but I am following the diet plan.

Has anyone else dealt with the rumbling? and what did you do about it?

Also, finding it hard to get all my water down, doctor told me to sip 1 oz over a 15 mintue span, how does that get all the water down, PLUS this week with protein shakes?  or does the protein shakes count as part of your liquid intake???

PLEASE HELP ON BOTH QUESTIONS, OR ON JUST ONE.

Thanks,
Denise

Hey Denise!
I was banded just a day before you! Im still having a hard time getting in all my protien and liquids. Ive been trying but havent had any appetite...Until Today. Now Im hungry and want to eat something...actually chew it up! LOL

I have my post op appt today and will meet with the Nut and move to soft/solid mushies.

I was told that all of the liquids count toward your total liquid for the day...so add everything you drink. at least thats what MY nut says.

I only get the occasional rumble and it is something new, never felt that type of rumble before, so sorry, cant help you there! LOL

Good Luck!

Thanks much Mary.  Congrats to you.  Were you told to drink slowly at your own pace or do you need to do the 1oz cup over a 15 minute span?  I HATE that idea.  I just want to drink what I can handle and when I can.  I started mushies today and LOVE it.  yogurts and cottage cheese.

Good Luck to you!!!!!!!  And Thanks for your reply!!

I wasnt given a time limit on my drinking, just to keep doing it! The only limits I got with drinking were the 30 minutes before and after once starting the next stage of food.

Ive been on full liquids since Ive been home so Ive been having yogurt, strained soup, pudding, jello and such already.

Looking forward to eggs or FF refied beans with salsa and sour cream...lol Im also craving french onion soup! LOL

When can we start the FF refried beans.  My doctor said Wendy's and Taco Bell have the best, but I don't remember when I can start that.  I think week 4?   French Onion soup sounds great.  If you ever want to chat more since we are at the exact same stage, please email me at [email protected]  I am on there daily.

I remember what you are feeling!  that rumble is just so odd.  My nut said that I needed to space out my shakes closer together and see if I had shakes that had some fiber in them to help stay full a little longer. I don't want to change what you Nut or doctor want you to do, but that is just what I was told:)  I do feel for you, but the mushy stage is so much better! Take care and God Bless!

Thank you!!!  I will try my shakes closer together and after this pack try one with fiber (mine only has 0.5 grams).

Thanks for your advice.  Best of luck to you!!!

I didn't have that problem so soon after surgery but have had it recently. It's so bad that my coworkers have even commented on it.

You are still on a liquid diet so there isn't really anything staying in your pouch to keep you full. And the liquid diet, while meeting your nutrional needs becomes very dissatisfying after a couple of weeks. Believe me, after a month on the liquid diet even my cats' food was beginning to look and smell real good. Because of potential swelling the surgeon left my band empty, perhaps yours is too and you're a fast healer. It may even take 4-5 fills before you notice any difference.

My nutritionist suggested to another WLS patient to add 1/2 banana to the protein shake (blended). If you have a nutritionist call him/her! They may have some suggestions for your to get through this challenging time.

As far as the type of weight you lost, 16 pounds is 16 pounds...CONGRATULATIONS!
