Overeating and the Band
Could you all please remind me of the dangers of overeating with the band...apparently I need a good kick in the behind!
I had a very emotionally straining day/evening yesterday. Im currently going thru issues (long story) and the surgery has helped keep my mind off everything. Last night I just wanted to eat. I didnt eat NEARLY as much as I could have or wanted. However, I did eat too much. Im just two weeks post op today and lost my mind. I kept telling myself to stop...but if I could listen to myself I wouldnt have needed this in the first place. I know Im only supposed to be eating 2oz at a time now...but I beat that. I didnt eat it all at once so hopefully I didnt do any real damage.
Please remind me...I know I could be pushing a slipped band, but the food is going down since I dont have any fills yet.
Thanks for listneing...

Hi Mary,
Just try and remember this...WLS is 10% physical and 90% mental. Don't let emotions destroy your your WLS. IMO, we all slip up from time to time so start today and weigh your food from this point.

People are so worried about what they eat between Christmas and the New Year, but they really should be worried about what they eat between the New Year and Christmas. ~Author Unknown
If, at 2 weeks post-op you are eating liquids or purees, then you won't do any harm as they will pass through the stoma.
If you are eating solids than you are putting at risk the surgery you probably spend a long time waiting for. When we eat solid foods, our stomach physically moves as it digests. This puts strain on stitches which will not yet be fully healed.
So it all rather depends more on what and not how much!

Highest 290, Banded - 248 Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.
Happily banded since May 2006. Regain of 28lbs 2013-14. ALL GONE!
But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,
I know its hard Mary I am 6.5 weeks post op and boy do I love to eat. Before you shove anything in you have to realize you body is now different !!!! If you are eating too much or solid food you can ruin the surgery and possibly perforate you new pouch. That the reason for the soft food and liquids. Your new stoma has to heal before solids are added. You had the COURAGE to do the surgery but this will only hurt you . You MUST think about what you really want. Most doctors WILL NOT repair any surgery from poor behavior. This is a new beginning. I KNOW how tough it is. The first week was terrible but so so much better the second and third. If you want to splurge make a protein shake with fresh fruit like peaches or frozen are better and alittle spenda and blend till creamy. Really good. You can also stick it in the freezer until it gets like ice cream. YOU WILL FEEL BETTER ABOUT YOURSELF AFTER EATING THAT . iT IS HARD AND WE ALL KNOW IT. We will support you in your journey. I know you really want to lose weight and feel better and you CAN do this. I am and its a good feeling to get thinner each week. That is your reward. Please take care and ask questions anytime !!!!!!

A perforation is basically a hole in your stomach, or in the sense that you are using the term... stomach explosion. ;o) Not possible. Dilation (stretching) yes, perforation... not a chance.
Most doctors repair damage done by overeating on a daily basis. If that was the case nobody would ever get a revision due to a slip or pouch/esophageal dilation and they wouldn't even treat a slip.
Let's not spread misinformation out there and stick to the quality information such as the rest of your post where you write some great post op ideas!
I hear you Mary. I am 3 days behind you and still on purees, soft stuff like soup, thick soup, yogurt,. cream of wheat, etc.
Yesterday, my husband and little girl picked me up for lunch. I had about a 3/4 cup to 1 cup of thick tomato soup, with some tomato chunks that I chewed up really well. I was miserable when I got back to the office, because I felt so god awful full. I had no symptoms, like slime or pb, but just hideously full. I spent the better portion of the afternoon worrying that I had hurt my band.
About 3 hours later, I was feeling hungry, so I know that it had moved it's way through.
I will have to be much more cognizant of my overeating too. It's what got me to the band. I realize that it will require a huge behavioral shift for me.
