I am OFFICIALLY going to be a BSW in a month!!! I graduate May 2nd with my BSW and a career concentration in Family, Children and Youth.

Currently interning full time at a nursing home and I absolutely LOVE IT. Doing the job search thing right now. Hoping to get into a nursing home, but I'm willing to take any social work position at this point. Eager to get my master's, but no money for it right now. I am going to get my masters in policy. I would love to be on the more political end of social work and advocacy!

yayyy for all the social workers!!!

Vicki :)

Hi Vicki!
I know I was glad I waited 6 years to get my masters in social work.  It was great to have the experience before chosing a concentration!  I am also very interested in macro social work and policy!  It is facinatingt!  Congrats on your graduation and welcome to the social work field!  I love it. The pay is not great, but the work itself is very rewarding!

Hi There.  I'm not a social worker...currently I'm a full-time sleep tech and a part-time respiratory therapist.  I received my BA in therapeutic recreation and did that for a few years.  After a long stint working for an independent medical evaluation company, in various positions, I returned to school and got my AS in respiratory therapy.  Last June in graduated with my AS in polysomnography (sleep studies).  I love working with the patients and their families - not social work but a caring and compassionate ear when needed, and an advocate when necessary.  Like some other of you, I take care of others and myself last, if at all.  That's changing, though.  My band and I are taking care of me now.

I'm a Family Resource Coordinator in our local Elementary School.  It's like a Social Worker.  I work with the families and kids to help them break any barriers that are causing them not to succeed in school - whether that be no electric on, shoes to tight, no school supplies...you name the problem and I've got a way to fix it!  LOL!  Before this, I did a pregnancy prevention program with middle school kids.  I LOVED that age group!  But, it was a grant position...and no longer funded, so I found my job now.

I have my master's in social work and am licensed in my state.  Working on completing my supervision hours towards being an lcsw.  I'm a supervisor for child protective services and do home based therapeutic interventions with kids/families part time.  I've also managed home based waivers in the mental retardation field.
