Hi.  So i am losing hair like crazy and i thought well i have very thick hair and i'm growing it out so i figured, well it's longer and just thought it was normal but holy cow!  I am pulling out probably about 20 strands of hair or more at a time.  I heard this could happen but OMG!!!  I'm starting to freak out...so i'm for sure taking my vitamins now, cause i've been slacking and i'm gonna do whatever i have to.  Is it because of the loss of protein?  Is that what i need to be sure i am getting?

Protein is apart off it but for the most part it's the shock of the rapid weight loss and stress on the body it usually starts 3-6 months out but it grows back.... mines sure did but it thinned out so bad b4 starting to grow back.... The Vitamins really don't play a big part in it either....

CW 319/ I can do this.....22lbs till goal ( I WILL NOT SABOTAGE MYSELF).....

It is normally due to not eating enough protein. Are you eating atleast 60-80 g a day?
Some people say that taking Biotin helps.

Hairloss is something I have had to deal with several times through out my life...I have had several surgeries...That being said, it comes from being put to sleep during surgery and also weight loss (I am told this)..But, it will grow back..It happens to me with every surgery,,It wont last long (about 2-3 months) and then one day you will notice that your hair getting thicker. not thinner ..Take Care.."lucky"

I have had lots of big surgeries and Guilliane Barre Syndrome.  I lost tons and tons of hair after each one.  It is from the trauma of surgery of illness.

It is frightening seeing all that hair in your hands or on your brush or comb.

It will grow back

And the journey begins.......

It is very often the result of anaesthesia. If that is the cause, it typically occurs about 3 months after surgery. It usually doesn't go on for long and it regrows. Inadequate protein or iron can also be a cause.

Causes

Causes of telogen effluvium can include childbirth, fevers, severe infections, major surgery or illness, prescribed medications, hormones or chemotherapy, psychological stress, and dieting that results in a loss of protein or iron. Conversely, excessive intake of supplements such as Vitamin A can also trigger telogen effluvium.

Don't sweat it. It will grow back it is most likely from surgery. I found it similar to after having a baby and freaked out at first too but now it is all growing back. I read in a mag a few months back that biotin is a waste of money but some use it and find it to work. I'd just save your nickles and ride it out.
Congrats on your surgery and good wishes!

I have had hair loss after each surgery (including this one)  and now 7 months out It has started falling out again.  I am approaching a 50 pound loss??  or my protein is not where it should be?  I dont know but I plan to ride it out.  I have thick hair and it just makes it easier to get into a pony tail.  My daughter lost 70 pounds and had the problem as well.  Here hair is now thick again.

Wow, thanks all of you for responding.  I'm just gonna have to ride this out i guess and in the meantime, i will be putting my hair up in a ponytail, (which is my husbands favorite style, so he'll be happy)  Thanks again!
