Disgusted

I am just really disgusted with myself right now. I had my surgery on Jan. 30th. I have only lost a total of 17lbs. I have 5cc's in my band and I am really embarassed to go back to Dr. Spiegal (who I absolutely love and all of the staff over there) and tell them I am still having trouble losing weight. I am frustrated. I wish I would have just gone on ahead and gotten the Gastric. I am grateful that I am not sick, there are no leakages, no slippages no problems to note except that it is not working for me. I'm sure it is due to me but I am just pissed--at me---shoooooooooooooooooooooooot!

Awww!  I had surgery two days before you.

Remember we lose much slower than gastric.  Maybe you just haven't reached your sweet spot?  I, too have a 5 cc in my band.  I think I am at restriction but still having issues with being hungry between breakfast and lunch.

Don't give up!!

Are you working out?  Eating enough?  Eating enough protein?

Talk with your NUT, if you have one!

Good luck, girl!

Hi Rhonda, Sorry you're disgusted and embarassed, because it looks like you're right on track.  You're losing 1 -2 lbs per week, which is a good pace.  How much do you have to lose?  At that pace, in a year you will have lost  a total of 102lbs.  My goodness, you'll be light as a feather!
Keep your chin up...Of course, if you really are ready to move on, I'm sure they can accomodate you with a bypass.  Good Luck.

Don't get so frustrated with yourself.  Just pick yourself up and keep going.  The thing to remember is that this is a TOOL!  You have to work it.  I can tell you that whatever WLS you choose each have their own struggles.  I had a DS in 2003 and lost 100 lbs and still gained back 46 lbs.  However, the nice thing about my surgery is that I have gone back to my basic's and I'm loosing again.  But again, I'm having to make my tool work for me.  A friend of mine had the RNY and she too has struggles and has to go back to the basics just to keep from gaining.  So, each WLS has ups & downs, but you now have a tool to help you.

BTW, my husband will be having the lap band done soon (already approved) so that's why I hang out around here so I can see what the differences are.

Every day is a new day and every meal you have to make the decision to either do what you know is right, or not.  If you didn't last meal doesn't mean you can't make that change the next!

Chin up!

My adivce, do it right the first time and stay with it.  Results - long term success!

Rhonda Rhonda Rhonda!  You are doing great - I only lost 11 lbs in the first few months - down I'm down 93.5!  Weight loss is slow, but it's worth it!  Don't be digusted, embarrsed or anything - you're doing just as you should!  There is no way your Dr. would be dissappointed in you!

Hang in there, make the appointment and don't get so hard on yourself!

Hugs,
Kristen

Oh girl, look here.  I had surgery in October of 07.  I am only down about 31 pounds.  I thought it was all due to me (I was not faithfully abiding by band rules) but it turns out that in addition to that, I also had a leak in my port (just had port replacement on 3/20) which means I would only have decent restriction for very short periods of time.  It was driving me crazy and my weight would always rebound up.

I said that to encourage you with this:  Even though everyone's sweet spot is different, if you have a 10cc band, chances are you are just not tight enough yet with only 5ccs.  Trust me, when you get to a fill level where you can't eat much, you WILL begin  to lose weight more quickly.  YOU have not failed, your band just needs adjusting.  Hang on in there girl.  I am!

Thank you, your post made me feel better too. A lot better. I know that it is not leaking because Dr. Spiegal makes you drink a Barium liquid everytime you go for a fill. I am just hoping and praying that it is because it is just not tight enough yet. Fingers and EYES crossed!

Hi, Rhonda:

Don't give up!  I am over 6 months out and have lost only 35.5 pounds.  BUT I was not doing all I needed to do.  I have started logging my food again, drinking more water, exercising 5 times a week and it is coming off faster again.  My last fill i am at 6.5 CC.  This is the restriction I need now, I just have to listen to my body and not eat everything on my plate (even if it is OK) if I start to get full.

You will do fine.

Rhonda go easy on yourself.  I "only" lost 18 pounds the first 2 months.  It takes time to get restriction and get the hand of the bvand rules.  Once I  did the weight melted off...over 100 pounds in 10 months!!!!

What helped me was to log everything I put into my mouth on www.thedailyplate.com.  It helped me make sure I was staying within my calorie and carb limit plus keeping my protein level up.  Try that for a week and see how that works.
