I just had my 2nd fill and I can eat anything just a really really small amount chewed up to water. I do mostly make smart choices but sometimes you need a taco.

Hey, a Taco Bell Fresco taco is only 150 calories, so I admit that I'll indulge in one every once in a while.

You just gave me my new life motto...

Sometimes, you just need a taco.

I would think only if they are "slider" foods but even then, your band is eventually going to get full (if and when you eat enough of them).

I'm new at this but from what I've read and reasearched, the point of restriction is to allow you to feel full and stay satisfied with a small amount of food.  That being said, we have to be very careful to choose very healthy foods...also, protein dense foods that will stay with us. :)

Hmmm. I don't know. I guess it may vary by the person.

Speaking strictly for MYSELF, I can't eat ANYTHING in unlimited quantities. I can't even drink that way. Even supposed easy to eat foods like ice cream I can only do a small amount (certainly smaller than what I could eat prior to surgery.) There's just not enough room in (and out, I suppose) of my little stomach.

Sandra:

I just received my 1st fill and I can honestly say I have restriction. Now, how long that will last is beyond me. I can only eat small amounts of food and I have to cut it up very small and chew chew chew! I think the farther you get out from surgery, the easier it may become.

Things like ice cream, starbucks 800 calorie beverages (or any beverage for that matter), soups, etc. yes.

I do have sliders, but I can't eat unlimited quantities.... just more than I could if I were eating lean protein.

I found restriction or even wls in general is so different for each person.  Once my weight reached a healthy number, the doctor would not do anymore fills.
I sort of freaked out when I learned this because I guess I had the wrong idea about the whole thing. I felt I was left to do it all on my own (not so). I can eat anything and sometimes more than other times. It depends on the day. I do try to eat the recommended portions and I'm usually very satisfied with the amount. My weight has stayed within a comfortable range since November 2008 (banded in Dec. 2007). There are days when I feel I need a little tweak and others where I'm glad to have a good doctor who watches out for his patients. My last fill was June 2008 (four small fills put me at 6cc). Hopes this helps. Best wishes to you.

Yes. Even with good restriction you will still be able to eat certain foods in unlimited quantity. examples might include ice cream, chocolate, creamy fattening soups and so on.

IMO if you are too tight you'll be more likely to binge on these foods because you'll be so desperately hungry for something that will make you feel full and satisfied.

My dr. had a patient who never lost a pound after a year of banding because they were melting candybars in the microwave and eating it.
