Stress Test Anyone?

Ok  I have to have my pre-op stress test on Thursday!  How bad are they?   I was told they would get me up to 85% of my heart rate which is (220-age= hr then hr x .85) 153.  I walked on the treadmill yesterday at 3.5mph and an elevation of 5.0 and it never reached 153 but I was at the point I couldn't go much longer.  So that experience has got me a little worried about the actual test.

Any help will be greatly appreciated plus prayers I won't fall off the darn thing and embaress myself!

Hi.

I had my stress test last month. They do get you up to approx 85% heart rate..I think that the difficulty level will be different for most people. I thought that for me, it was a workout, but luckily I have been going to the gym and it wasn't too bad.. I will tell you that I definitely broke a serious sweat.. It's made semi-difficult to test your heart.

Good luck

Mine wasn't near as bad as I had geared myself up to think it was going to be...

You will be fine, are they going to give you the IV to race your heart? I had that and surely thought I was going to die after reading about it all, but it was like having a flash flush...and it was over before I knew..

Good Luck and God Bless

If you take into consideration what I weighed when I got HOME from the hospital we could use 212 as a starting weight....Just a thought

I had one done back in December and it wasnt bad at all. I was all worried that I wasnt going to be able to make it to 85% but it was less than 10 minuutes and I was done. It did take a little longer to catch my breath afterwards though.

I had one a few years ago and it wasn't all that bad.  You have to run until your heart rate reaches a certain point, then they hop you off the treadmill and quickly do pictures of your beating heart.  They don't keep you running at that elevated heartrate, so you don't really get exhausted or anything.

The bad part? They have you in a hospital gown.  "Excuse me? You want me to run? Without a bra?!!"

I just had one last week.  I have been walking for the past month, and I think that helped.  But they don't call it a "stress" test for nothing, it is a workout.  The good thing is, by the time it gets to the part when you don't think you can do it anymore, it's over!  : )

You will surivive.  I promise!

I am scheduled to have mine next friday.

I am also nervous.  I am so darn fat , I can't imagine walking that fast to get my heart rate up there.  I hope I don't have a heart attack

Oh well.

I'll just do my best

Good luck,
Steph

Thanks for all the help!   I agree that it really got bad when they told me no clothes on top except for a gown(opened in front no less).   Ready or not I leave for the hospital in 15 minutes!

I have plantar fascitis in my right foot so that might get me before the heart does!

I'll be back to tell you all the "stressful" details!
