Hi Everyone....

I am 3 weeks post op from having lap band. My largest incision feels different underneath. When I rub my hand over the area it feels like it is bulging out. Could this be swelling? If so, why am just now noticing it? I can even notice it when looking in the mirror. Could my band have slipped? Just kinda freaking out . It has been like this for at least a week. Has anyone had this problem?

At 3 weeks out it could still be swelling.  Do you have a fever, is the sight red and irritated, warm to the touch?  Have you been vomiting, not able to keep anything down?  At 3 weeks out I don't think you could have a slip, unless you have totally been eating abnormal amounts of food.  I'm not a doc, and don't pretend to be one, if you are still having problems, then put a call into your doc.

Wishing you the best,
Avis

I don't have any of those symptoms. I am wondering if it could possibly be Hematoma? It seems to be a common thing amongst bandsters from what I have read on other sites. I think I will call my Dr on Monday just to be on the safe side. Thanks for your input!!

I have a similar situation almost 5 weeks out.  This might help - from Sandy's post below entitled The First Six Weeks. But if you have any doubts, always call your surgeon's office and ask. That's what they are there for.

3. Hard lump near port site. This is common. It is an accumulation of swelling, plus a small hematome, normal inflammation, and forming scar tissue. It can even grow to egg-sized. It will slowly resolve over the next few months. However, there should be NO hot skin at the site, no fever, no pus-like discharge, no extra pain. if THESE are present it is probably an infection. call your band surgeon at once. If your surgeon is in another country, you'll need to see your family doc for an RX, as docs not licensed in the US cannot prescribe here

The largest incision is the one over your port. It may just be that this is very near the surface. The port can sometimes be felt by touch, especially after weight loss. But if you have any worries, always ask your doc.

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

I can't speak for you, but in my own exp, at only 6 weeks out I can feel my port and it feels like a lump under my largest incision. The dr confirmed it when I went in at my post op check and said that it was actually a good thing to be able to feel it like that. As long as you are not having leakage, redness, running a temp, or hot and clamy skin at the buldge I would not be too worried about it. Good luck!
