Can't use "smaller portions" card at buffet !?!
This could go on all night and at this point the only positive thing that remains is I haven't needed to exercise as much willpower to resist overeating for the time I'm here in some sick attempt to prove what I don't even know or care anymore.
It's almost laughable, but sadder still.
But I haven't written any of those things. I merely wrote that I disagreed with the kitten thing. That's all. That's it, nothing more.
Your buddy that is defending you is causing you more grief than necessary.
I still feel that there is NOTHING wrong with writing the accent used, I see no problem with that. I don't care, it gives the story more understanding. That's all I have written about the OP. Period.
I think we have to agree to disagree at this point.

I may need to take a reprieve for a while whilst the dust settles, but this has been one sick ride.
And just for the record, some of my family still speak w/ broken english and I can mimick that too, so what?
I'm an actress at heart, that's what I do.

Well, as I wrote, I don't much care about the accent thing. It's life, it's what we are. Some can spot that I am from the midwest by my own accent. They are right... how they know that I have no clue. You do know what Iowa stands for, right? Idoits Out Walking Around. ;o) That's me.
You can never please everyone, it is how it is, But adults agree to disagree. Bottom line. The rest? It does not matter.
While I understand why someone from an Asian background may have taken offense, my interpretation of your post was simply a quote based on the accent of the person who spoke, and by quoting that person, it gave me a better understanding of how rude her response was, resulting in embarrassment to you. I believe that was your whole point. Not that she was Asian.
My understanding of your post was that the reason you left the restaurant was not the fact that you got turned down on using the card, but because the hostess was very rude to in the way she spoke to you. THAT was unacceptable. You were willing to to back in and pay the extra. If she hadn't been so rude and embarrased you, your husband probably would have been willing to go back in too. A little kindness and discretion would have gone a long way and would have made a difference in how you and your family reacted. Any business that would embarass a customer doesn't deserve their business. I would have been offended if I was treated that way and I would have left too. But beforehand, I would have quietly explained to the hostess that she could have used some discretion and tactfulness in regard to the card and if she had, your family would have stayed and payed full price.
And, why not try to use the card? Hey, I'll take any discount I can find no matter where. I look for cheaper gas prices, cut coupons, look for sales, etc. I do it to save money. So if a restaurant will honor the card, darned right I'll use it. Save me some money to buy more protein powder. LOL
