LOW CARB SUPPORT..LET'S TALK!!

Good Monday Morning LC'ers!!
I hope you all had a great weekend..
I had lunch out twice and dinner out once over the weekend and I'm down .5 since Friday morning!
That would not be possible without low carb!

Last week I went over the 4 Phases of low carb eating and the foods allowed during each phase.
I hoped this would help clarify low carb to those that were considering it..
There appears to be a lot of assumptions and misinformation out there as to what a low carb lifestyle actually is.

Here are some things I hear all the time:

Low carb bans vegetables..NOT true!

Low carb bans all fruits and grains. NOT true!

Low carbers eat butter and cream in excess and that we all must have sky- high cholesterol levels.

SO NOT TRUE!

Here are the facts:

Low carb advocates protein first and foremost.

Healthy protein sources like lean meats, chicken, fish and eggs.

It advises we eat a variety of vegetables every day.

Fruits and whole grains are eaten on the maintenance level..

Maintenance is literally "the low carb lifestyle". Not a diet.. but a way of eating for life.

I have said many times that I choose to stay on the most restrictive level of low carb: Phase One..because I want to control my cravings and hunger and lose my excess weight most efficiently.
When I'm at goal weight I will transition to maintenance level..in addition to the protein, vegetables and low sugar dairy I eat now..I will add in healthy fruits, beans, legumes, nuts and whole grains.
The only foods permanently banned are "white" processed carbs, sugar, and high sodium, high sugar processed foods.
Low Carb is an extremely healthy lifestyle with many health benefits.
Besides curbing cravings and allowing those of us that have sugar and carb issues to lose weight..it stabilizes insulin levels and lowers high glucose levels.
Many on low carb have lower blood pressure, cholesterol and triglyceride levels..I, for one, see a dramatic improvement in my health status when I'm  on low carb.
Do I plan to stay on Phase One forever?  ..Of course not.
I don't advise anyone stay on Phase One unless they choose to...it's a personal decision.

I believe the shortest distance between two points is a straight line..Phase One low carb is my straight line!

On October 23, 2009 I weighed 213.5 pounds and had a BMI of 40.
Today I weigh 140 pounds with a BMI of  25.6.
Yes, I was banded on that day and I attribute part of my success in losing weight to my band.
It altered my thinking.
It made me accountable for what I choose to eat.
It made it impossible for me to "binge" on sweets...and for a sugar addict like me, if I can't eat all the sweets I want to eat..I don't bother to eat them at all. It's not worth it.
What has my band done for me?....It helped me get my head in the game.
Could I have lost weight relying on my band/restriction alone?
Absoultely NOT.
I could not have lost the weight I've lost thus far without low carb.
That's the honest truth.
If I were eating starches, sugars, and high carb foods..even "in moderation".....I  would have stalled weight loss, I'd be white knuckling insane cravings and hunger..
I'd be totally discouraged and feel like I failed at losing weight...yet again.
I've only had 2 fills since my surgery. I haven't had a fill since Jan 4.
My band is very much on the loose side, and as far as restriction goes?? I'm not really sure if I've ever had it!
I know I could eat much more than I do..
But like I always say:  Just because I can, doesn't mean I should! LOL
I weigh and measure my food, and count calories and carbs.
Without the starches and sugars triggering hunger, I'm satisfied between meals.
That's what I would call my "sweet spot"..and it really has nothing to do with volume restriction at this point..
The reason I'm 20 pounds away from my goal weight of 120 pounds is low carb...with a little help from my band.
I post this thread to help those of you, like myself, that will absolutely fail at losing weight if we eat high carbs and sugar. Band or no band.
That's a hard statement to make, but it's a true statement for me.
Do I miss eating sweets?
Not as much as I, or anyone might think!
The longer I stay on track, the easier it gets.
If I allowed myself  "cheats" ? Who would I be cheating other than myself?
If I told myself  "just this once won't hurt",  I'd be back at square one fighting cravings..if I justify poor food choices by saying:  "life's too short to deprive myself"....I'd be right back on that craving/hunger/bingeing rollercoaster I've spent most of my life on....
I might have to eat my cookies, cake, donuts and candy in smaller portions because of my band... but I guarantee you I could definitely find a way to get it all in over the course of a day!

This is how I feel:

Life is short.
Life is way to too short for me to waste any more of it being fat, unhealthy and miserable.
Being at a healthier weight will allow me to live my life the way I was meant to live it.
My cravings for food don't control me anymore.
Thanks to my band? Sure...
Thanks to Low Carb??? Absolutely!
Have a good day.

I have been copying all these wonderful recipes you post and have pretty much decided that low carb is going to be my lifestyle when I can eat again ! I am "clean" right now off everything pretty much and so I am thinking why would I introduce that stuff to my body again? I have tried it in the past and felt alot better in doing so . Old habits died hard and eventually I failed at those attempts as well but this is my new begining and I am gonna give it the best go I can !

Good for you!
I wish everyone that's struggling could see that low carb is a very healthy lifestyle..it makes staying on track easier because the cravings and hunger are under control..and none of us need white processed carbs or sugar!
I'm happy you've seen the light!
Good luck :)

Hey NY2ATL...

I saw these recipes and thought they could easily be modified to low carb. I tried to send you a PM, but I couldnt click on your profile.

These are not 'induction' style low carb recipes, but they could be easily modified.

Hope you can work with these ground beef casserole recipes...arghh, the link is at the top. One day, I'll figure out how to paste at the bottom of my post! LOL
