I had a fill about 6 weeks ago. It was a little too tight, but i didn't say anything because i had just been through an almost two month plateau. I started to loose again so i was happy, but now it has gotten i think even more tight. I can not eat anything in the morning even yogurt gets stuck in the morning. I eat lunch when i can, usually i eat standing up(I know that is bad) or i just have a protein shake for lunch. Even dinner is becoming a nightmare. Tonight is the second night I have tried to eat dinner and after 2 bites i am in the bathroom throwing up, because it is stuck. I have gained 6lbs in the past week i really don't see how i can barely eat. I had an appointment last Friday and didn't say anything now i am thinking about calling tomorrow for an unfil and i know he is going to be annoyed. I am so sad. I feel like I am really making a mess of this. Like I am getting greedy.  Also I have been having what feels like a lump in my throat have no idea what that is. So Do you think i am right about getting an unfill?

Tina,

This is my personal opinion. Trying to lose weight with a tight band to me is a huge no no .  First off you could do damage to your band  and to yourself.  Second , its not healthy at all.

There are two people in my support group meeting one dont care at all because she is losing weight and she could care less , the other one lost her band because she did the exact same thing staying to tight and she pd the price for it .  Lost her band for good .

Losing weight is not worth the health risks you are putting yourself in being to tight.  I would be calling asap and getting a slight unfill its nothing to mess around with .

I would rather have more will power and yes maybe more mistakes on eating then a tight band .

You are too tight and need an unfill.  The band is adjustable and you shouldn't worry about the surgeon being annoyed.  If you threw up last night, today you should have been on liquids for 24 hours after vomiting.  You have swelling and you need to give your pouch/stoma a rest.

I figure this is for life and I don't want to be that tight.  The band is for diminishing hunger and not stopping us from eating. From what I have read, it's easier to lose weight if the band isn't too tight.

Please call for an unfill.  You will feel so much better and the 6lbs plus more will come back off.

Do not worry about the Doc being annoyed.. he went into this profession of his own free will (well, at least I hope he did..haha).

Until you can get in for an unfill, try drinking something warm (tea, coffee, warm water with lemon, thin soup) right before you eat.  Don't wait 30 minutes after consuming the warm liquid to eat.  Waiting would defeat the purpose.  The warm liquid for many bandsters loosens the band enough to make eating easier.

The lump in the throat feeling can be a very subtle sign of reflux.  It can also be a transient feeling from being a bit too tight.

Let us know how you are after getting a little fluid taken out.  We care.

It's very easy to fall in to that trap of wanting to lose weight, even if it's with a band that is too tight.....but as you already know, it's not a good idea.  Make the call, get a slight unfill.....it is worth it!!

Sometimes there is no happy medium with the band.  It is not your fault that you have to rely on gueswork to search for proper restriction.

I hope you have made and appt. to see your Dr. today.  You are most likely swollen and irritated because you are too tight.  Being too tight effects your stomach, esophagus and throat.  It also effects your general well being because you are not eating properly and you are under a lot of stress.

I would go back to where you were before the fill and stay on liquids until you totally heal.  Your Dr. may have a different suggestion and I would go with whatever he says as long as it involves an unfill.

Does your surgeon have someone on call? I can't believe a surgeon wouldn't have someone on call  in case of an emergency.

Averbach works with Singh, does he not? He's always an option; a great one at that.
