I received a letter in the mail today say that I am discharged from the Edmonton bariatric program I have been attending for a year due to lack of communication.  I had flown out of province 3 times in the last year to meet with the program at great expense and actually have appointments scheduled for the end of September but apparently it was not enough.  Of course I pick up my mail on the way to work and think this letter is about my next appointments.  Wrong.  Now I'm sitting in my office at Mental Health part numb and part trying to keep from crying.  I sent out a mass text (5 people) who are my family requesting prayer support.

There are a number of you here that have always reached out to me when I'm down and I appreciate you SO MUCH.  With the expanded criteria here I  may now qualify but my last year of hard work seems like it was for nothing and I'm stuck way back at the beginning, maybe that is God's plan, I don't know.

So I just ask for prayers or chicken swinging if you're not the praying type.  Thank you.

I don't think my BMI is too high, and my age is definitely not a factor, but my dr. told me that if for any reason I Was denied by the Manitoba program, she'd send me out of province. You could ask about doing that? I think the wait times are about the same though.

Congrats! If you don't mind me asking, how long did it take from referral to "acceptance" into the program? I am still waiting for the acceptance letter. I had my Dr. office follow up with the baritatric centre and was told that I am being "triaged".

Congrats again, this must be so exciting for you! :)

@ Manitoba Mike, some of the people reading this post may bring some from their husbands.  What sizes would be good for now and for shrinking into.  I used to wear only guys sweats and t-shirts when I was bigger there are sizes 4X and 3X Sweats and t-shirts.  I don't have much because my husband Darren (you met him) is big too and he fits some of my old stuff. Barb

Post what sizes you could use and you might just hit pay dirt from the husbands.  LOL  (I will bring what I have too.)

I know of someone who had the surgery in Winnipeg but didn't meet the requirements. She was below the minimum BMI but was given the surgery because of back problems, so keep trying.

I think Regina has a higher age limit. It is through the Qu'Appelle Health Authority(I think).

Good luck!

I agree with you . I found this very upsetting , and was annoyed by the bottom of the second email where it says  " Not sure what eles to say"

My Dr. can't figure that one out either. I have never had an appointment with the clinic, so how can they deny me without seeing me first. She has sent them several letters asking why I have been denied. They now stopped responding to her. I'm not giving up, neither is my Doctor.

If you can afford to pay to have the surgery in Mexico, you could have it done within a month. Unfortunately your age isn't something you can change. enlightened  My surgery (VSG) cost approximately $7000 U.S. Flight was extra. I would recommend that route to anyone. The recovery from surgery was very easy. You could conceivably live for another 20 or more years, which is less likely if you don't have the surgery. Being healthier from weight loss is obviously a huge benefit.
