Impending Grandma Update

Thought I'd fill you in on the latest news for my grandson. The plan is to deliver him at 28 weeks on November 30th. N is freaking out because they told her they will put a tube down her throat. She is under the impression she will be awake when this happens. She has asked me to speak to the doctors about not doing this. I will do my best to calm her fears. She has been able to hold fast in a room just off the CCU in the cardiac unit for 3 days now. Last week she was back and forth between the 2 units. She is becoming more stable each day. My grandson now weighs 1 lb 6 ozs. Still taking things one day at a time, but it does seem to be getting better. Thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers.

Just met a young man yesterday who is now 19 and looks plenty healthy. He was 1lb 8oz at birth. Unreal!! You would never know it now. You and your family will continue to be in my prayers. Keep us updated. TraciL

Aime, it's wonderful to hear that your DIL is making progress. I hope she stays calm for her and her sons sake. I also hope you're taking the time to keep yourself healthy and as stress free as possible. My cousin had a severe case of pre-eclampsia (sp?) discovered at 28 weeks. The doctors believe it started a few weeks before that. They delivered her daughter by c-section as soon as they  found it. She weighed 2lb. 1oz. and dropped down to 1lb. 15oz. the next morning. She came out screaming, with healthy lungs, and never once needed to be intubated.  She is now 19 months old, and besides being petite, she is on target developmentally. She was the joy of the NICU, since she was such an easy baby to care for, breathing and eating on her own from minute 1. I know nobody ever wishes for a tiny baby, but thank God for medical science making strides every day, so many preemies are thriving these days. Good, positive, healing thoughts are continuing for you all!
Hugs!

Aimee, Thanks for keeping us in the loop, hopefully everything goes well for baby and mother, thanks to the technology, nowadays they deliver babies less than a lb and they aer healthy and happy. My little niece was 1lbs 1 oz when delivered, she is healtier and even taller and more strong boned than her brother triplete siblings! Good luck, Ellie
