Flood in my house-cross post

Hi. When we came back from my brother's house last night after 4 nights away our house was like a rain forest. Apparently a hose busted in the dishwasher. The carpet on the upstairs is soaked. The floor has buckled in the hallway outside of the kitchen. The ceiling and walls of the living room dining room kitchen and foyer have water stains from the humidity. The ceiling in the basement has fallen in places. Where it is still up they are bulging. The paint on the ceiling has formed bubbles that are holding trapped water. There is 2 to 3 inches of standing water on the lower level. Everything is wet to the touch. Everything we have in the basement is pretty much damaged or ruined. I filed a claim with our insurance and they sent service master out last night. They put a giant humidifier on in the kitchen and they came back this morning. David and I have to go through everything and estimate costs. What a mess. The service master guy said this is not the worse he has ever seen but is right up there. He said a fire would almost have been better. Can you imagine? I just saw the electricians are here. I guess service master must have called them. Just so you know, David and I are still counting our blessings. We have a lot to be thankful for.

Wow!!  I am so sorry to hear this happened. It is major saw the pictures. I will keep you guys in my thoughts and prayers that all this get resolved soon. ((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))  

Thank you Cira, just having you guys know and sympathetic helps me through this. I guess that sounds crazy huh but it is true.

Thanks Kathy, Service Master has been great. They have pulled out all the flooring, wall board, ceiling and everything else. Now they have gigantic fans and gigantic dehumidifiers running. Tomorrow they are going to pack things up to make way for the contractor later on in the week. I hope the adjustor shows up tomorrow and lets us know what they are going to pay for.

UGH!!!  I can't even imagine.  I am so sorry.  For the man to say a fire might have been better is pretty darn bad.  I have had a house fire before and to say it was the pits is an understatement.  Are you all staying at home or elsewhere?  I was just wondering if they were livable conditions. Thanks Kim, I know I was shocked about the fire part. It is pretty awful. We are trying to make do at home because we have 2 dogs and a hotel would just be really hard.

Thanks Edie, it is a mess and each day it gets worse.

Now I remember why they always say to turn off all the hoses to things before you go away. I am so sorry you came home to such a mess.
