I ran into a friend of mine from back in the day. She was literally half of what she use to be and told me she too had RNY. She didnt use Kligman though she used some Doc at St Agnes. Anyway we talked for a bit and she told me she had to give up one of her FAV places to eat which is Boston Chicken? When I ask why she just said her surgeon said that she had to. Has anyone else been told that? I LOVE BOSTON CHICKEN!!! I can see maybe the sweet taters with marshmallows being a NO NO but the other stuff I thought should be ok in small quanities. Im starting to freak a bit here. I see my surgeon on the 15th and I will talk to him about this but I just wanted to know if anyone else has been told No to Boston Chicken. Is there something they use maybe to cook the food in thats a no no? I LOVE THAT PLACE and its my go to fast food place because I HATE McD, Wendys, BK and all those other places. Can ya tell I am freaking? LOL
Anyway she told me she went through major withdraws from Boston Chicken and some chinese food buffet she use to hit once a week. She said it caused depression for her. I wont be that bad off but I am just sitting here wondering how veggies and white meat can be bad. If anyone else has input on this please let me know. ((((Hugs))))) Thanks ~Jilly~

Hi Jilly,

Girl let me tell you something, this is a life style change that we will make for the rest of our lives.  But it is not a death sentence!  LOL  I have eaten at Boston chicken and I am doing great! It is just the choices that we make is what we need to modify.  For example the very fattening stuff like, the high carbs is what you bneed to avoid. but I eat the veggies and chicken just fine. I stay away from the bread a lot but I still have a bite of two. Your pouch will be small so you first focus on the yummy chicken, then the veggies and if you have some space some mash or tiny piece of cornbread.

I think you don't need to stop eating somewhere at all all you need to do is make the right choices when you go eat there.  I eat at McD's, Wendys and even at the all you can eat chinese buffet and even chic fil-A.  When I do I eat the crab legs, shrimp, maybe a couple of sushi, veggie and fruit and I do great.

Don't freak out girl you will be able to eat in moderation again. Trust me then your will be eating to live not living to eat. It is a big difference you will be satisfied quickly and not be suffering. I think when someone completely denies themselves of a particular food they will be depressed.

Tell your friend to go have some Boston chicken and veggies. lol

Hugs,

My hunch is the surgeon may be trying to help her tackle the addiction issue and abstaining from a fav place might be a good approach for some.  There's healthy food at Boston Chicken for sure!  ---but some not so good choices too.  Sometimes going to ones fav place and not being able to eat the way or what  one did in the past can be a bit depressing too- so some choose to avoid the situation entirely by not going.  Just my 2 cents :-)

That makes sense. Im not sure what it was she use to eat there so maybe it was something on the not so healthy side. Phew! I wasnt wanting to avoid that place all together after my surgery. She told me too that I would be on jarred baby food for 6-8 weeks. I cant even IMAGINE that. I mean 6 days of that would be hard on me. I just need to talk more to my surgeon so I dont get cold feet. Thanks for your feedback ;o) ~Jilly~

LOL I have heard some doctors require their patients to eat baby food. My doctor requires us to puree our food for 2 weeks.  Lord I would never do baby food!

I am glad I was able to ease your mind.

First............... breathe.......................There are only three bariatric surgeons at St. Agnes two of them on in the same practice and one of them was mine Dr. Averbach.  The other is Dr. Von Ruden now, I don't know about DVR but I do know that neither Singh or Averbach would tell a patient that one, not to eat Boston Market or any other chain type food nor do they tell you to eat baby food.. Cira just about covered it all.  I am a little over three months post op and still have my challenges with food and still am experimenting but I had both chicken and mashed potatoes from Bosten Market a month ago.  Now mind you, it was a very tiny amount but non the less I did have it and enjoy it. I have also eaten a small square of Domino's thin and crispy pizza!!  Most of my diet still consists of yogurt, cottage cheese, cheese,  peanut butter etc., but once in awhile I just have to have something else, but the quanity is so small compared to pre op. Pre op I would eat a whole thin and crispy small pizza now I can only eat a square. You will be fine, but it is always good to check!!

Hang in there we are all here for support

Hugs,
Terri

Thank you Terri!!!!!! She said her surgeon told her NO BOSTON CHICKEN AT ALL but I dont have any idea what she use to eat there. Maybe it was brownies?hehe I dont know. Maybe there was more to it. I didnt talk to her long and we hadnt seen each other in a very long time so I didnt pry too much. I just know it had me boggled all day yesterday. To know I can eat it just tiny amounts at a time I can handle, versus NOT AT ALL. THANK  YOU! ;o) And LOL at the pizza!!! Atleast you can still have some. ;o) ~Jilly~
