Chest Pain????

Well, for the past few days, I have been having really bad chest pain and pain when swallowing.  I thought I had indigestion, but tums and pepto didn't help.  So, today I was already scheduled for my GI Evaluation, and brought it up to the dr, and he said that it's either GERD or Hiatal Hernia.  Since I have to have the Endoscopy done for the RNY, he will schedule for me to have it done sooner so we can find out what is going on.  So, I'm scheduled for the Endoscopy on September 29th, and until then he put me on Prevacid.  However, I am not getting any relief from the medicine.  I no longer have pain when I'm swallowing, but the pain in my chest is still there.  They say it's not my heart since my EKG was fine.  However, I am scared!  I have never felt pain like this before!  I did get some good news today....  I have lost 8 lbs. in the past 3 weeks without making any major changes other then portions.  Any advice on what i should do about my chest pain?

I'm not a doc, I just play one on TV, lol. But, you should check with your PCP. It could be as simple as gas, but chest pain is nothing to fool with. have your been sick recently? Could this be bronchitis or pleurisy? Several years ago a friend of mine had pleurisy, and it scared her so bad she went to the ER. She was convinced she was having a heart attack. I hope you feel better soon!!
Hugs!

Hi there,

I had severe acid reflux and I had the same symptoms. It hurt to swallow and the pain in my chest was unbearable. It took a few days before all the symptoms goes away. In the meantime do not eat anything spicy, greasy or any type of toamtoe sauce, pizza sauce etc. The pain should subside in a couple of days after using prevacid.  Try to stop eating early too and lay in bed a bit upright that helps too.

I hope you get to feeling better soon.  Congratulations on your weight loss that is fantastic!

I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.

Thank you so much.  The pain in my chest is horrible.  This has been going on since Sunday.  I hope it ends soon.  It relieves my fear knowing that these are symptoms of reflux.  I was starting to get really worried.  I saw my PCP today also before my GI Eval, and she did the EKG just to make sure.  She was thinking Hiatal Hernia, but the GI thinks GERD.  Which is why they are doing the Endoscopy.  I just want to feel better lol.  Thank you again.

I remember the pain so well right in the middle of your breast bone. When I used to get it that bad i would have to be treated in the hospital with medication to buff the reflux and pain meds for the pain.  You should be getting some relief soon especially if are careful of the things you eat.  Stay away from acidic stuff and do not eat late.

The good thing is that you got checked out and your EKG and everything came out normal so you know that it is NOT your heart.

Keep me posted ok.

Go to the ER ASAP, one thing you NEVER take a chance on is your heart.  If the pain is that bad, it's not normal.  Why even take the risk, it doesn't make sense.

I just went through this a few days agao.  I ended up at the ER thinking I was having a heart attack, but my EKg was fine also.  Then they thought maybe it was a blood clot in the lung as a delayed problem from my surgery.  So to rule that out, the did a CT scan, and found that there was no clot, but I have pneumonia.  I had no symptoms except the pain, so that wasn't even a concern until the read the CT scan.  I agree you should go to the ER.  Let us know how it goes.

I decided that if I don't have some relief by this evening from the Prevacid, I am going to call the doctor and go to the ER.  Thanks so much for everyones advice.

Thank you so much for checking on me.  I am actually feeling so much better.  Thank you so much for your advice.  I am still getting little pains in my chest, but it's no where near as bad as it was.  I can't wait till I am approved for surgery and can finally have it.  I want this weight off of me so bad.  I know I will be so much healthier after I lose this weight.  Thank you again!
