HE'S RESIGNING!!!

Although I wish I could come on here and tell you that the authorities have captured the arsonists around here, I do have a bit of good news.  Finally, after months of pleading from Coatesville residents, police chief William Matthews has announced he will be resigning from his position.  The idiot said he'd like to stick around until the state of emergency is lifted, but that isn't coming any time soon - or at least not until the string of arsons are solved.

So what does this mean?  I'm going to go out on a limb that since his contract runs out the end of April that the city council won't give him until them to empty out his desk.  Why let the lame duck take up a very valuable position if he isn't going to be around past May 1st anyway?  I'm waiting for the official announcement any day now that he was forced out prior to the crimes being solved.  The city will be better off for it.

For those of you not aware of it, the chief was hired almost two years ago by the city manager - against the advice of a search committee.  In other words, he was not the first choice.  Unfortunately, the city manager went against the recommendations of the committee and backed Matthews instead of the choice of the search committee.  Matthews was not qualified from the get go.  He isn't state certified, can not wear a uniform, badge or carry a firearm.  He can not even make an arrest, investigate a crime or even visit any of the sites of the arsons.  The council pressured him numerous times to get his state certification but failed to do so, citing health issues as reasons why he wouldn't be able to pass the physical.

Next up will be another search for our new chief.  We have a very capable candidate right here in the city that has been on the force for over 20 years and was acting chief prior to Matthews being named full time chief.  However, because the interim chief was living outside the city limits he was not considered for the permanent position at the time.  He has since moved to within the city limits and people around here are praying that the city manager gets off his high horse and names him permanent chief ASAP.

Since my last update on the arsons about a week or so ago there have been six additional fires, five just outside the city limits of Coatesville.  The arsonists seem to be focusing their attention in these areas now, as the heat they are receiving within the city itself is starting to get a little too hot for them now.  This isn't exactly good news because now we're talking about an expanded target for these thugs and catching them may be tougher because there is now a broader area.  I don't know, I just know this is beyond getting old.  Thanks for letting me vent.

Andy, I agree it would have even been better news to hear that they caught the culprit(s). Hopefully, this annoucement will bring the kind of change that is needed to bring the positive action that will resolve this problem and make for a happier and safer community.

Praying they find these people soon.
Hoping that everything works out for everyone.

Thank God, Andy!!  Any little bit of good news has got to be a blessing for the people of Coatesville.  Unfortunately, any time politics comes into play, it can be an ugly thing.

Here's hoping that the right thing is done for the town and that its residents can once again live without fear.

Hugs,

Tia
