I've already had my RNY but a friend was asking me about it and the fees.  I don't know of any that don't charge program fees but thought I'd ask here.  Are there any out there that don't charge a program fee above and beyond what insurance covers? Thanks!

I have never had to pay any program fees.  I only have a copay when I see my surgeon for a follow up.  And I had a little coinsurance for the surgery itself to the hospital and surgeon...(under $100)  With Dr. Kligman, the nutritionist, support groups and all the other bells and whistles were included.  The only thing that was not was the psych eval.

Dr. Kligman is with University of MD in Baltimore.

Thanks for the info!  I'll let her know.

Every info session I went to they talked about the 'program fee'.  Some were more than others but they all had them.  Wish I'd known that sooner. LOL j/k My doc was awesome! I'd def. recommend him but she doesn't have the $ but she does have insurance coverage.

The COMP center @ GBMC does not have a fee.  Only copays.  It stands for Comprehensive Obesity Management Program.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!

I am so glad I found this post!  I have been to see several surgeons and was getting frustrated at the additional costs the surgeons were imposing on patients.  Dr. Schweitzer's practice requires you to see a nutritionist. This is not covered by insurance and they require you to only see a nutritionist associated with them.  This costs several hundred dollars.  Then I saw Dr. von Ruden (sp?) and they require you to purchase a $1,000 program to use their dietitian, exercise specialist, ect.  They will not perform the surgery unless you make this purchase.  This has been so frustrating.  I have satisfied the requirements of my insurance company and just want to have the surgery already!

Yay for Dr. Kligman and his group for not trying to squeeze more money out of you in addition to what he will make off the surgery alone!  I went to a seminar last night for Dr. Kligman and have an appointment set up at the end of the month.  I'm so excited, finally I can move forward with my surgery plans.

Again, thank you, thank you, thank you!

Ya know this is not a popular opinion but if you can't afford the program fee how will you afford your protein, your tests and your supplements on a regular basis?
