How wonderful to log on again and see this!!! I actually started the 5 Day Pouch Test on Sunday so I'm on Day 3!  Unfortunately  my scale is broken but I'm doing fairly well on the "test"  I made 2 types of soup also (the Sausage & Pumpkin and the Ham & Split Pea... both which I really am enjoying) , and my son brought me over a pot of chicken soup w/o the noodles added to it (bless his heart). My BF purchased me a bowl of oyster stew... unfortunately it wasn't very tasty.

With so many soups to choose from on Day 1 and SF pudding, I didn't have a problem.  Day 2, yesterday, I started wanting something to chew, so I opted for a slice of deli ham since there was already ham in the Split Pea Soup.

Today Day 3, I made my very first Coddled Egg and added "Real Bacon" to it with S&P. I was very impressed with it.  It was very yummy!  I have also snacked on a chobani yogurt w/ splenda today.

For dinner, I am making salmon cakes from the 5 Day Pouch Test website. I don't have any ground flax, so I'm going to substitue the Vegetable Protein.

I am so happy to have seen this on here!!

I had fallen off the weight loss wagon once I reached goal and gained 15 lbs back in the last year+.  I'm happy to be back on track again.. and hoping to keep chugging full steam ahead. I know it will be much more difficult to lose weight this time around since I am a little over 2 years out of surgery.

I wish you all luck!!!

Warm regards,
Ren

I so echo what Laura said, Day 1 was murder!!  The head hunger just about killed you.  The want to chew on something was unbelieable.  However once I did give up the notion that I could do it with shakes only and went out and got myself some soups, pudding and jello life was much better.  I too was a little grumpy, although I tried to mask it by being quiet and staying away from people so as not to inflict them with my mood.

Today (Day 2) is MUCH better and I have NO head hunger today at all.  I'm skating through this day with my protein shakes, and soup.  I'm a person all about easy, so I found cup of soups by "The Spice Hunter" in the grocery store last night where all you have to do is add water and they are perfect for me.  Split Pea, Potato, and a couple others that are high in protein so that's what I'm working with especially when traveling to work.

Unlike Laura I am much farther out, 2 years 4 months.  I have lost a total of 125 lbs but haven't lost anything in the last year, so this is a renewed start for me.  I lost 4 lbs on day.  I do know it's all water weight but that is ok, still feels good.

Keep up the good work Laura, Cira and GIno!!   We can do this.

PS - I'm looking foward to that egg too tomorrow!!

Laura,

Way to go!!!  I am so proud of you and David.  I am so glad you have someone with you in person to encourage you to continue.  Today is definitely going to be a better day.  Gino and I could not wait for Wednesday to be here to have an omelet.  lol  Wednesday morning came and we were not terribly hungry and we got full quickly.  You will see!

As for the soups i just get cream of chicken and cream of mushroom and I am good to go.  :)

I can not wait to hear about your day tomorrow.

Keep up the great work.  My daughter is also doing the diet and she has not had the surgery.

Have a fantastic day on purpose!

Lol, I had to go to be early, like I said. I was a grumpy jerk. I cannot believe I did an even more severe version of this for TWO WEEKS before surgery! It's almost like I was a different person then. This is a good reality check for me to get back on track. Today is much better thus far, but mornings aren't where I struggle. It's afternoon and evenings. But just one more night of this and I'm on soft foods. Exciting! Thanks for your support, Cira!

Topic: Day 1 and 2 of 5 Day Pouch Test
Hi all,

As you can see from previous posts, Cira and Angela inspired Christy and I to try the 5 Day Pouch Test. I've committed to giving updates and already I've blown it as far as posting on Day 1 (yesterday). So sorry. I did not however, break the restrictions of the pouch test, I'm pleased to say.

In giving my updates, it would be helpful to tell you that I'm a little over 8 months out from RNY surgery. My surgeon thinks that my "easy" days of weight loss are long gone and it's on me now. I've also never really experienced issues tolerating any of the recommended foods, and that includes dense proteins. So as you can see, it has been easy for me to get a bit off-track.

So here's my update on the 5 Day Pouch Test:

I made it through day 1(yesterday) and lost 3 pounds so far. I'm sure it's water weight, but it's good to see some change when I certainly felt the sacrifice of not eating. It was hard on day 1, I'm not kidding. I wanted to eat something...anything! I fully see the value in getting back to basics though and cleaning the slate. Especially since I am craving lean and green again (instead of bad carbs).

I made two kinds of soup and didn't care for either, though Dave (who is doing it with me even though he's not had surgery, bless him) liked them both a lot. They were the pumpkin sausage soup and the black bean soup. I found the pumpkin soup to be much too rich (and I'm not sure how the sausage fits the "liquid diet" requirements) and the black bean was too salty and runny (my fault). I'd rather stick with cream soups or broth to be honest. I found that when I was doing a liquid diet before surgery (and after) I was really sensitive to strong tastes, especially too salty or too sweet. So I'm sticking with creamed soups and shakes (and of course the jello and the pudding). It's only two days, so no reason to agonize over what to consume during those 2 days.

If you're thinking of trying this out and you did the liquid diet before surgery, you will probably be pleasantly surprised with how short it is!  I cannot fathom that I did this for 2 weeks before surgery (actually, it was much worse because I could only have shakes). So the point is, it really matters where your HEAD is in this game, not so much your stomach/pouch. The head hunger and my wavering attitude threatened to derail me many times yesterday but but I'm still on track and I'm grateful for an opportunity to test my resolve as well as my tool.

I'm much happier today, though boy am I counting the hours until tomorrow and that first egg!)

Good morning everyone!

I must say that day one went smoothly and I was not hungry or craving sweets. Yay! Today is even better. I am feeling energetic.  One thing I noticed today is that these liquids are definitely cleaning out my system.  Which is a good thing!   lol

I am down one more pound so I got 2 more pounds to make my goal.  I got my exercise in for today early since we are expecting snow later.
As for Gino he is doing fantastic as well down another pound as well.

OK. So I want to share something that I thought of over the weekend.
My oldest daughter is morbidly obese and every time she tries a diet so loses but gains it back and more. Just like I was before RNY. She has been considering surgery but right now it's not an option for her. So I was thinking she should try the diet as well. Hi protein low carb diet she is addicted to sugar, carbs like really bad. So I figured this will help her get rid of the carb monster as well. She started the diet yesterday.  She complained about the protein drinks the bad taste in her mouth and especially not being able to eat any sweets.  Since she was off work I stayed on her all day, encouraging her to continue that tomorrow would be a better day.  When she woke up this morning she was down 3 pounds in one day.  She is in a better mood today and actually doing quite well. I can't wait to see what day 5 will bring for her.  I am so excited for her.

This helps even those that are pre-op!

So I hope I have inspired more people to give a try as well.

Have a great day on purpose.

Thanks for reading!!!
