Jake update
Just so you know what's going on with Jake, here's a play by play of our last few days!!!! (taken partially from an email I wrote Jenn)
Wednesday - He had his well-child check and was "well". Had coughed and sneezed a few times but I didn't even mention it he was fine. Nothing to be concerned about.
Thursday - Sneezing and coughing (a little) with RIVERS of boogers coming out of each nostril. chased him with tissues all day.
Thursday night - croup set in. Horrible cough (have you ever heard it?) and he was up most of the night.
Friday - took him to see our doc. She put him on albuterol nebulizer treatments for the croup.
Saturday - treatments continued. He seemed to still be sick but was holding it together.
Sunday - Having a really hard time breathing with retractions in his rib cage. Gave him a treatment at 9 - no response. Treatment at 11:30 - no response. Breathing rate of 52 breaths a minute and a temp of 100.1 . I called the on-call doc and he said to either take him straight to the ER or wait 30 minutes try another treatment and then take him to the ER if there still wasn't a response. Waited and gave him the treatment - no change so we went to the ER. They tested him for RSV, gave him some prednisone and took some chest x-rays. BINGO! Pneumonia! They didn't make us stay as long as we promised to watch him like a hawk and take him to our doc today.
Monday- I called as soon as they turned the phones on at the office and tried to make him an appt. Jake was screaming non-stop and we were fit to be tied! He wasn't eating and drinking very much. His overnight diaper was barely wet! :( Before we could get to the doctor he started having a REALLY hard time breathing, so we called our doctor and we got sent to the ER again.
They ended up admitting us and we had to stay overnight. We just got home now. Jake is recovering now and goes back to the doctor tomorrow at 9 AM. The antibiotics seem to be working and his breathing is better - he continues the breathing treatments as needed and the antibiotics for two more days!
Let's hope he's better from here on out!!!! I can't take much more of this!! Sick 15 month olds suck! Thanks for reading this!
Awww Summer I feel for ya it is so hard when the little ones are sick. I am glad he is feeling better . What a time you have had. Are you ok?? That kind of thing takes a lot out of you as a parent and a mom. Wishing you could take it all away for them. I have been there as I am sure most moms have at one time or another. Keep us updated please.
Oh boy, do I remember those days like they were yesterday. I know you must have been terrified and exhausted at the same time. Poor little baby. Yet amazingly they bounce back don't they...a heck of a lot faster than we do. Try and get some sleep when he sleeps if you can. Eat and drink as healthily as you can. Don't forget to take care of you or you won't be able to care for him. I'll keep you in my prayers.
thanks for all the detail. my heart goes out to all of you. i wish i could be there to watch over him so you guys could catch a nap without worrying. i have asthma so can relate when breathing is hard. i had pnumonea (sp) once and wouldn't wi**** on anyone. you are wonderful parents and jake is very lucky to have you there to take care of him.
get some rest and fluids. stay strong for the little man. sending hugs!
