EMMC

When I went to the nutrition class with Dayna, I asked if we were required to lose weight before surgery and she said no, but we shouldn't gain weight and it would be better to lose if we could. Were others having surgery at EMMC required to lose weight? Does that requirement change depending upon your insurance or after you have your one-on-one with the dietitian? I thought we weren't required to because the two week liquid fast would take off the weight we need to shrink the liver. Can folks speak to this who have already been through this stage...especially if you are at EMMC or have Toder?

Terry, you are right, I have read from others that it sounds like the 2 week liquid with Toder replaces the 10% weight loss for others.  Every Dr. has different requirements.  or also, what your BMI is,  If you were told you didn't have to loose then you do what they say. I am sure you will be loosing soon enough.  Plus that 2 week liq. diet will be H##%!!  I think just the 2 days I have to do will be hard enough.  Terry, have you seen your dietician one on one yet?

No. My appointment with her is on March 7th and then my appointment at Acadia with Dr. Fritzler is on the 20th. My food has not been good and I am trying to just hold my own and not gain before the dietitian one-on-one. Of course if she does require a weight loss, I will have plenty of time to get it done since it looks like my surgery won't be until late summer if I want Toder. My AM fasting blood sugars are about 10-15 points higher than they want them to be, but it is my understanding that diet doesn't affect those in the way they do blood sugars following meals. I hope I do not have to go on meds to lower them before surgery. I have avoided that by keeping my A1c consistently below 7. I guess I will know more after the 7th.

OMG Terry, I"m glad I don't have to track all those numbers, i'm so bad with numbers, you had me breathing heavy.  is that for Diabetes?

Yes they are and they are easy to track, I just am not good about remembering to take my blood sugars. I figured as long as I am below 7 on my A1c, I am safe. But the nutritionist is requiring it. It is just a necessary hassle. But good with numbers? Au, contrare! I am right this minute preparing for a quiz in my online math class on solving percent equations and I am getting more wrong than I am getting right. I can't keep all the darn formulas straight! I used to be pretty good at math, but no more. My brain just doesn't do that anymore. I have discovered I have even forgotten some of my times tables! LOL What is up with that??

Thanks to everyone for all of your suggestions and comments.  I had already emailed Lynn prior to starting this thread. I had a bad feeling about my appointment with Dr. Fritzler.  He spent more time not believing I didn't know the name of the meal I ate the evening before than anything else.  I could tell him the ingredients and even what page and section of the menu it was on however I didn't pay attention to the name of the dish.  I felt like he was calling me dishonest.....this after the tests showed I was extremely honest in my answers.  We really didn't discuss much else however he feels that I shouldn't allow my boyfriend to keep foods that I cannot eat in his house.  I disagree...I mean...if I ask my friends and relatives what foods they can and cannot keep in their home when I visit I won't ever leave home...no one will want me around. So anyway according to the email I recieved from Lynn I have to first see my primary physician to up my antidepressants.  I've already called my doctor and I cannot see her until late March. Well isn't that depressing.....grrrr More and more surgery in Mexico is looking like my only hope.
