Feeling discouraged

I was banded on the 30th of December and since the surgery I have lost 9 pounds. I have no restriction yet and will have my first fill on the 9th. I am feeling frustrated. I have been doing everything by the book, and my weight loss is very slow. I have been eating very small portions and do not feel hungry but do have a lot of stomach growling. I have been on the treadmill for at least a half hour a day, sometime longer. I know this is a slow process, but I am really feeling very discouraged. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

hey, cheryl, first of all the band is slow.  You must have read or been told that.  It can be very discouraging, but it sounds like you are doing everything your suppose to do.  at this point you need to remember to continue doing what you are doing.  give it time.  It is very easy to go back to back habbits, as I have done.  I am guilty of not following all the rules 24/7.  but because of the waiting period, (9 mo) that is understandable.  WE HAVE ALL DONE THAT.  With the band you should be loosing an average of 1 -2 lbs a week.  looks like you are doing great.  Don't think you will loose more.  After you get more restriction is will get easier and if you have lost 9 lbs. as of today, it will only get better.  Be patient, and dont' compare yourself to the RNY guys, it will discourage you.  It is going to be slower.  at this rate by summer you will have lost 50 lbs. so keep it up.  I wish I would have been as successful as you and have a dr that works with me and my band.  I don't think the Band is his forte.  good luck,  cheryl

I know it can be very discouraging. Hang in there, you'll get there and as MamaG said - you are making progress.

Hi , I haven't been on for a while,,, I was banded almost 2 years now by Dr. Wolff the staff is great. It does get better  and once you get a fill and some restriction ... but you are not hungry so that is a good thing. The weight loss is a VERY SLOW process there will be weeks that you will not lose nothing in weight but your clothes will get bigger.... It will be 2 years for me this May 22 and I've lost 80 pounds yeah Im sure I could have reach 100 if medical reason and some laziness didn't hold me back but I know that I will get there someday,,, I have joined a gym with my family and I am hoping  that will get it going again.... But I wish you luck ,,, trust Sharon at the office with the fills and all will work out fine....

oh by the way how much saline does your band hold????

Take care

Linda

Hey Linda!  I completely relate to everything you say here.  May 30th is 2 years for me and I tell you I had BETTER get crackin or I STILL wont get to my goal and I'm afraid my goal isn't going to make me happy considering the size of my stomach right now!  UGH!  This band has been the most frustrating tool to deal with.  I dont really love it I tell ya that but I wouldn't go without it for sure.  I'm starting to have troubles with what might be heartburn all of the sudden.  What is up with THAT after having no prolems with that over the past 20 months.  I have a constand dull burning in the base of my throat and it's worse at night.

Whatever.  LOL.  That's how I feel about this band.  It drives me crazy at times.  Especially when having to eat with 3 small children.  I can't stand eating around them.  HA!

I dont know if you remember me at all we have talked in the past.  I have to put up a new picture of myself.  Anyway, I haven't come to OH in ages either.

Take care,
Heather

Heather, I know you are far ahead of me in the process, but I hope you understand if you are having reflux at night it could be something very serious.  You need to call dr. asap.  the longer you let this go, the more damage that can be done.  Have you been too tight?  This is one reason I am willing to stay on the loose side.  being too tight can cause some issues.  I would call dr. to make sure all is good.    Also, the band can keep working for you for years, so don't feel after 2 years it is over, take care of yourself and you band.  Best of luck, keep us posted.

I called and the nurse wants me to come and get some saline out.  She thinks I might be too tight.  Which makes NO sense to me considering my last fill was 2 months ago.  I've never had one get too tight this long after a fill.  And I have  been tight before but not for over a year and it didn't take two MONTHS for it to get that way.

So I suppose I have to go get some saline out.
