Question for Lapbanders

From time to time I'll see posts about there not being many people with this type of surgery posting and RNYers don't have the same issues.

Ultimately, I hope that we can support each other regardless of the type of surgery. What I'm realizing is that I don't understand the issues of a lapbander that well. So help me be a better support to you - please tell me about the issues you face.

I'm off to work, will look forward to your responses when I get home!

Good Morning, and I will respond, maybe the only one, But, i'll do my best.  The support is great, it is like and  as helpful as my DH and family.  But like anything else it is nice to hear, people having the same frustrations as you.  You are able to share, dumping, sugar issues, ulcer issues that might show up (only ones I could think of right now), and can be assured that no matter what you come accross there is someone here that can help, or have great input, on what to do, or expect, fron RNY'ers.

With the band, although it is similar. there are things that are different.  FIlls, sweet spots, restriction, unfills.  The slow loss, is frustrating and it would be helpful to hear others experienceing the same frustrations.  There are questions we have also, questions you guys can't answer.  Yes you support, with encouragement.  I feel it is only our fault that no one comes on and posts.  How can we form a bond, or get questions asked or answered if we dont share.

I appreciate ALL your love and support, in the past and present.

can you imagine going to a cancer support page with breast cancer, and everyone else has bone cancer.  The same, yet different.  I hope this helps.  did I miss anything?

The Lap Band Forum on OH, has been a big help with my questions, yet, the closeness of the Maine board was as important.  The LB forum is getting a little old now, lots of newbies, asking all those beginner questions,  I have moved on, hopefully soon to the graduate board.  (One year out).  does the RNY forum have that too??

Thanks for asking Candace,
Hugs, Cheryl

I agree with Cheryl it is great to have support but it is just on the same surgery, so there are different issues. I know there are alot of banders out there it would be great if some would start sharing. I am still new to the band I have only been banded 3 months, and I really could use some support, but alot of things on the Maine board do not really pertain to me.

I'm here for you Cheryl, ask away, I will do my best to help/share what my stuggles have been and help you out if I can. even being one year out, I still need to share and talk.  Maybe we can drag all the banders out of "Lurkdum"

Hi girls I  had my band done Feb. 4 with Dr Wolff as well and just had my first fill I fell that I  can eat more now then before and I have only lost 33 pounds. So I am a little concerned but I had no trouble at all with the fill I know that I am eating to much even though I am eating all the right sutff and I watch all my calories. Am I the only one that it seem like if I eat a full 1200 cal a day that I do better losing the pounds.

Cheryl you said it perfectly when you replied to the oceanlady's post.
You are a very wise and caring person I can't wait to meet you some time.

ohh, geee thanks,  I think you loosing 33 lbs is awesome,  did your dr explain to you that loosing 1 lb. a week is average with the band?  I usually eat between 900-1200 cal. a day, depending on what i'm doing for the day, if  I'm home bored I eat more.  I still havn't figured out what works for me, I"ve tired it all. low carbs, exercise, no exercise, you name it.  since my hystorectomy its been a battle for me to loose, even before my band.  as for YOU eating more now, after your fill, just keep journaling and counting your calories, wait till your next fill, DON"T give up. you will start feeling something soon,  how long does your dr. want you to wait inbetween fills?  before you know it, your band will be telling you, when you need to stop eating.  did you have RNY before? I thought this was a revision?  I actually thought you had a band and went to RNY.
